Sanders Wins One Off Cartwright

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Adam Sanders raised to 14,000 from under the gun with the cutoff and Kyle Cartwright, from the big blind, coming along.

Cartwright checked the {5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} flop and Sanders continued for 20,000. The player in the cutoff folded and Cartwright called.

Cartwright check called 35,000 on the {7-Clubs} turn and both players checked the {4-Diamonds} river.

When the hands were tabled Cartwright showed {9-Clubs}{9-Spades} and Sanders had {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} for the better pair.

Robert Deppe's Showing Off

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Robert Deppe think that his table mates are being too serious and that poker is just like a video game.

"It's just like a video game" claimed Deppe, "I'm only trying to win."

It appears the conversation was started by Deppe showing his hand and someone else at his table refusing to do the same.

"You're just having fun," said one of Deppe's railbird.

"Yeah, and I'm showing how good I am!"

Ivey Survives

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Phil Ivey moved all in for his final 66,500 and found a caller in Al Rogers.

Rogers: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Ivey: {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The board came {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and counterfeited the eights of Rogers to give Ivey the win and leave Rogers short-stacked.

Joseph Dibiasi Still Leads

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Joseph Dibiasi is still our chip leader here in Event #18 where we have only 31 players remaining.

Dibiasi opened from under the gun to 12,000 and Samer Al-Shurieki called from the big blind. The {4-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} would not have been out of place on a Valentine's Day card but Al-Shurieki showed it no love and he checked. Dibiasi tested the waters with a 20,000 bet and it was enough to force a fold from his opponent.

Dibiasi is now on 400,000 chips; the Canadian looks extremely comfortable as we approach the business end of this tournament.

Nitsche Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Dominik Nitsche has moved tables and he cannot be too enthralled about his new seat. To his right is Kyle Cartwright who is a regular on the WSOP Circuit where he has three championship rings. To Nitsche's left is the legendary Phil Ivey, who is short-stacked, but even if Ivey only had a single chip in his stack you still wouldn't want him on your left!

Kamel Tanks With Set of Jacks

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Tamer Kamel raised it up to 13,500 preflop. Joseph Dibiasi called on the button. They took a flop of {7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{a-Hearts}. Both players checked. The turn came the {j-Hearts}. Kamel checked and Dibiasi bet 48,500. Kamel called and the river was a brick. Kamel checked again, and Dibiasi decided to set Kamel all in.

Kamel went deep into the tank and appeared really flustered. He finally said "call" and flipped up his {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} for top set. Dibiasi could only muster up {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}.

Dibiasi got set back to 220,000, while Kamel doubled to 410,000.

"Is That How You Win Tournaments?"

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

James Cooper's tournament has ended and in cruel circumstances too.

Cooper got his stack into the middle as an 82% favorite with his {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades} crushing the {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} of Adam Sanders. Cooper's kings kept in front as the {q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop came into view but they were left desperately needing a third king when the {8-Spades} became the turn card. The {Q-Spades} river failed to alter anything and Cooper and his shiny L.A. Lakers hat exited the tournament area.

"Is that how you win tournaments?" asked Sanders to Shannon Shorr.

Yes sir, we think it is.
