LuckBoxJuanda Doubles

Shahriar Assareh opened the betting with a raise to 25,000 from middle position. John Juanda replied by moving all in 71,000 from the button and Assareh called.

Assareh: {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Juanda: {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

The flop brought good news for Juanda, as it paired his queen with {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. The turn was the {4-Hearts} and Juanda would need to dodge an ace on the river to double up.

The dealer produced the {7-Clubs} on the river, ensuring Juanda's double up. He's now sitting on a stack of about 178,000.

Volpe Sinks Sternheimer

Paul Volpe
Paul Volpe

Action started with Paul Volpe, who raised it up to 26,000. It folded around to Philip Sternheimer in the big blind, and he three bet it to 61,000. Volpe tossed in the call, and they were off to a flop.

That flop came {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}. Sternheimer led out for 71,000, and Volpe came along for the turn, which was the {q-Spades}. Sternheimer checked this time, and after getting a rough idea of Sternheimer's stack, Volpe fired out 125,000. Sternheimer called, and the river brought the {10-Spades}.

Sternheimer quickly checked, and Volpe moved all in after about 10 seconds of thought. This bet put Sternheimer to a decision for his last 330,000, and he tanked for about three to four minutes. Eventually, he called, and Volpe flipped over {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for a flopped full house.

Sternheimer said nice hand and mucked his hand, but the cameras requested it be turned over, and the dealer showed {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} for a flush. "I saw the vein in your neck so I thought you were bluffing," Sternheimer said after his hand was tabled.

Paul responded with "I'm always nervous. Unlucky man". After that pot, Volpe is back over three million chips.

Balkin Bounces Abueid

Sam Abueid was just all in and at risk with {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} against the {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} of David Balkin. As they both stood and awaited the community cards, both had ideas about what kinds of cards they'd like to see.

"Red rags please," said Balkin, hoping there'd be no straights or flushes to save Abueid. "Let's see some paint," asked Abueid with a grin.

The board ended up satisfying Balkin better, coming {8-Clubs}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{3-Spades}{J-Hearts}. His aces held, and Abueid is out.

Bisson Spikes an Ace to Stay Alive

We're not sure of the betting action, but we do know that Stephane Bisson was all in preflop for 453,000 and racing against Barry Wiedemann in the big blind.

Showdown

Wiedemann{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Bisson{A-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Bisson was on his feet jumping around and showing off for the ESPN cameras, which by that time had surrounded the table. The {J-Spades}{6-Hearts}{J-Hearts} flop stifled his enthusiasm a bit, but the {2-Hearts} brought it right back. "Heart, heart," Bisson said a bit excited as he once again did his best impersonation of a kangaroo. While the {A-Diamonds} wasn't a heart, it did pair his ace and gave him the double.

Selbst Catches Flush Against Bullock

Vanessa Selbst open-limped under the gun and Joel Bullock also limped from the hijack seat. Everyone else folded to John Beauprez, who checked his option from the big blind for a three-way pot.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{K-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Beauprez checked. Selbst fired 16,000 into the middle, Bullock called, but Beauprez folded.

Both players then proceeded to check the {4-Spades} turn and {Q-Spades} river.

"I have a flush," Selbst said - shaking her head. She then revealed {8-Spades}{6-Spades} for a runner-runner flush.

Bullock mucked and Selbst scooped the small pot.

Curl Out

We caught up to find Alan Curl all in and at risk holding {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} before the flop. Curl was up against Andras Koroknai and Koroknai was sitting pretty with {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}.

The flop brought {3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and little hope for Curl. The turn was the {9-Clubs} and suddenly Curl began rooting for a club to strike the river and keep him alive in this tournament. Alas, the river was the {K-Hearts} and Curl's Main Event officially came to an end.

Koroknai, on the other hand, has now passed the two-million chip mark with 2,070,000 in chips.

Happenings at Table 390

Gregory Milliron opened to 25,000 from early position, Chanracy Khun called in the hijack seat, Nicolau Villa Lobos three-bet jammed for 248,000 from the small blind, and Milliron re-shoved. Khun folded.

Milliron{a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Lobos{k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop gave Lobos an open-ended straight draw, and the {k-Spades} on the turn gave him a leading pair of kings. The {5-Clubs} bricked on the river, and he more than doubled to 550,000.

A few hands later, at the same table, Andrew Moreno opened to 26,000, Lobos three-bet to 61,000, and Moreno called. The flop fell {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Spades}, and Moreno check-called a 73,000-chip bet. The turn was the {j-Clubs}, and Moreno checked again. Lobos moved all in, and Moreno released.
