Hein Cracks Gigliotti's Kings

Jason Gigliotti opened for 1,150 from middle position only to have Lenka Hein move all in right behind for 5,550. The rest of the field got out of the way, Gigliotti made the call, and the hands were turned over:

Showdown

Gigliotti{K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Hein{A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}

The {2-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{K-Spades} flop was kind to Gigliotti as it gave him a set of kings, but Hein did pick up a Broadway straight draw to a ten. The {A-Spades} turn paired Hein but was meaningless, while the {10-Hearts} spiked on the turn to give her the aforementioned straight and the win.

Jones Knows

Amon Filippi got the action started in a recent hand by raising it up to 1,200 from middle position. The only other player willing to come along for the ride was Rhys Jones in the big blind.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Jones checked to the bettor. Filippi then fired out 2,600. Jones made the call and both players were off to the turn.

The {7-Diamonds} landed on the turn and we saw a repeat of action with Jones check-calling a bet of 6,700 from Filippi. The {3-Diamonds} on the river saw Jones check for the third time, and Filippi check for the first time. Cards were then turned over, and it appeared Jones managed to get there on the river.

Jones exposed {7-Spades}{6-Spades} for the straight while all Filippi could muster up was {2-Spades}{2-Clubs} for a set of twos.

Selbst Still Going Strong

It was a great day 1 for Pokerstars Pro Vanessa Selbst, as she ended with a top 10 chip stack. Well she has picked up right where she left off, as she has just won another pot to put her second in chips on the day.

Selbst raised it up in middle position to 1,200, and the big blind, Hans Hein, made the call. The flop came down {8-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, and Hein check called a 1,600 bet from Selbst. The turn brought the {8-Clubs}, and Hein led out this time for 2,600. Selbst came along, and the river brought the {3-Clubs}. Hein led out one more time for 4,200, but Selbst wasn't going anywhere, as she tossed in the call. Hein could only show {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for a missed straight, while Selbst tabled {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a winning two pair.

After that hand, Selbst has rocketed up to 186,000.

A Devilish Hand

Oscar Kemps opened to 1,200 from under the gun, Eugene Schmidt moved all in for 13,350 on his direct left, and the action folded to David Ritter, who re-jammed for just under 26,000 from the button. Darvin Moon folded from the small blind, and Gabe Kaplan released from the big.

Kemps looked like he was in physical pain, and after some thinking, he announced, "fold," showing {a-}{k-}.

Schmidt{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Ritter{k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Kaplan and Moon both complemented Kemps for his fold, saying that they both had an ace when the {a-Hearts} peaked through the window of the flop. It was followed by the {3-Spades}, {q-Spades}, and a groan from Kemps. The turn and river came {9-Clubs}, {4-Spades} respectively, and Ritter increased his stack to 42,000.

Kemps just missed scoring a double knockout, but still has over forty big blinds with 20,500 chips.

Too Easy for Easley

A player in late position raised it up to 1,125. The table then folded around to the cut-off who three-bet to 2,700. Action folded over to Seneca Easley next in the big blind and he made the call. The initial raiser in late position also made the call, and we had three to the flop.

The flop came {k-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Diamonds} prompting a bet of 3,600 from Easley. The late position player folded and the cutoff made the call.

The two remaining players were both witness to the {10-Diamonds} on the turn. Easley changed gears and checked, and the cutoff followed suit with a check of his own.

The {Q-Diamonds} on the river saw Easley fire out again, this time for 4,600. The cutoff contemplated for awhile, but eventually gave it up, and Easley was awarded the pot.

Pham Bests Boeree

Liv Boeree couldn't have been too happy when she saw her new seat assignment today, as she has experienced tournament pro David "The Dragon" Pham on her immediate left. Well the two just tangled in a pot, and Pham came out the victor.

We caught up with the action on the river, with the board reading {8-Spades}{q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. There was about 10,000 in the middle, and Boeree checked to Pham, who fired out 4,000. Boeree spent about 30 seconds in the tank before tossing in the call. Pham tabled {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for top pair, and Boeree chucked her cards into the muck.

After that pot, Boeree is down to 33,500, while Pham cracks the 100k line.
