Confused Grospellier

Bertrand Grospellier recently joined the fun here in the Brasilia room and we managed to get a snap shot of a recent hand that unfolded.
We don't know what the action was preflop, but four people still had their hands when the dealer turned over a 
flop. The small blind checked along with ElkY in the big blind. After a player in early position checked, the player in middle position made a bet of 500. Grospellier was the only one willing to pay and was awarded a 
turn.
Grospellier again tapped the felt for a check and his opponent fired out 1,400. Grospellier slowly made the call and both players were shown the 
river. It was here where Grospellier checked and the player in middle position bet 12,000, putting the famous internet pro all in.
A look of heavy confusion covered Grospellier's face and he was forced to throw away his hand.
