Juanda On The Comeback Trail

John Juanda was down to just 23,000 earlier in the level but two doubles in a row has Juanda right back in this. Action started with Juanda in early position, and he raised pot to 21,000. It folded around to Tommy Vedes, and he put in a raise to 66,000, enough to put Juanda all in. Everyone else folded, and Juanda made the call.

Juanda: {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}
Vedes: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The flop came down {9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, and Vedes, who already seemed resigned to his fate of losing the hand, begrudgingly said "nice hand". After the {4-Diamonds} hit the turn, giving Juanda a set, Juanda said "now it's a nice hand", not realizing that Vedes had picked up the nut flush draw. Despite picking up those outs, Vedes bricked the river, as it came the {7-Spades}, and Juanda scooped the pot to get to 108,000, while Vedes dropped below 70,000.
