The Bubble Hath Burst

Jesse Martin bursts the bubble.
Jesse Martin bursts the bubble.

On the 24th hand of hand for hand play, Jesse Martin was forced all in for 3,000 in the big blind. Cary Marshall limped from early position and Chek Shen raised the action from the button. Marshall called and the two were contesting for a side pot while Martin sat quietly.

The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} and both Marshall and Shen checked. The {6-Spades} rolled off on the turn and Marshall checked. Shen bet and Marshall folded. Shen showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for ace-king high.

The dealer completed the board with the {3-Spades} and Martin tabled the {8-Clubs}{5-Spades} for absolutely nothing. Martin became our bubble boy and the final 27 players are now all guaranteed at least $5,799.

This hand garnered a small crowd of other players in this tournament. Among the crowd was Michael Shelton who couldn't help but comment on the hand.

"Why did you bet the turn with ace high?" proclaimed Shelton while laughing. "That's gotta be the worst bet in history! He bet the turn with ace high with a player all in!"

Shen was quiet through all of the comments and merely stacked his new chips.
