Stammen Staying Near Top

Kevin Stammen
Kevin Stammen

We came upon this hand as the flop was being dealt, with subsequent action (and conversation) suggesting Keven "Stamdogg" Stammen had limped in from the button, and Alex Rivera in the big blind checked. The pair then both checked the {5-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop.

The turn was the {6-Clubs}, and Rivera bet 8,000. "You can fold," he said to Stammen, who declined the advice and called. The river was the {9-Diamonds} and Rivera checked once more. Again, he encouraged Stammen to check, then after Stammen bet 23,000, he commented at length about how big the bet was before he called.

Stammen showed {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a straight. Rivera then turned over {8-Clubs}{3-Spades} for the same straight and they chopped. "Thought you were going to show up with {8-}{10-} there," said Stammen. "After you gave that speech."

For Stammen's part, he's mostly letting his chips do the talking as he continues to maintain a top 10 stack.
