The Kelly Strategy

Dan Kelly has chipped up in the early going, and was sitting around the 10,000-chip mark just now when he raised from under the gun and got a single caller in the big blind. The flop came {A-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and when checked to Kelly continued with a bet only to see his opponent check-raise. Kelly paused a beat, then called.

Kelly called his opponent's bets after the {J-Diamonds} turn and {2-Clubs} river as well, taking nearly a half-minute before the final call. His opponent showed {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for aces, and Kelly swiftly mucked.

Seiver Takes A Pot, But Still Down

Jeff Shulman put in a raise from under the gun and and the player in the small blind called. Scott Seiver called from the big blind and the flop fell {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.

It checked around to Shulman who bet, but the small blind put in a raise. Seiver re-raised, quickly chasing out Shulman. The player in the small blind folded as well, giving the pot to Seiver.

This is Seiver's second event today, as he finished in 15th-place in Event 37 about an hour ago.

Not So Happy Start for Shulman

Jeff Shulman is here, as is his dad, Barry. Jeff is fresh off a third-place showing in Event 20: $5,000 Limit Hold'em. He's been active early on, although it hasn't been working out too well thus far.

Just now Jeff defended his big blind versus a button raise, then check-raised the {K-Spades}{4-Spades}{A-Hearts} flop and his opponent called. Shulman bet both the {9-Spades} turn and {5-Hearts} river, and his opponent called the first time quickly, then after some thought called the river, too.

Shulman tabled {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}, but his opponent had him beat with {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}.
