Gold Section Review: Richard Hughes & Dylan Hortin

When we first walked around the Gold Section there was one man who stood a good 10,000 ahead of his competitors and he was a multiple World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder. Ryan Hughes holds bracelets in two different formats of Seven Card Stud, but has scores in virtually every game there is. In short, this kid can play poker. But we did say WAS 10,000 ahead of everyone else. Here are two pots involving Hughes - one good and one…not so good.

A man with slicked back grey hair and silver rimmed glasses raised to 700 in early position. The action folded around to Hughes, in the cutoff, and he made the call. The flop was {Q-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {8-Clubs} and the initial raiser check-called a 1,100 Hughes bet. Pot control was the order of the turn, when both players checked at the sight of the {5-Hearts} . Finally we saw the {4-Diamonds} on fifth street and the initial raiser check-called a 4,200 Hughes bet. Hughes calmly turned over {5-Spades} {4-Clubs} , like all players holding winning hands do, and the initial raiser flipped over a frustrated looking {10-Spades} {10-Hearts} .

Then Dylan Hortin raised from mid-position before Hughes three-bet to 1,600. Back to Hortin and he immediately made it 3,475, Hughes then made it 5,600, Hortin announced all-in and Hughes called.
