Rubie Stays Active

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Brendon Rubie continued to drive the action when he opened to 31,000. Greg Merson re-raised to 78,000 and Rubie called.

The flop came {2-Hearts} {8-Spades} {7-Diamonds}, Rubie checked, Merson bet 54,000 and Rubie check-raised to 145,000. Merson took a few moments to call and the turn came {9-Hearts}. Both players checked to the {J-Spades} river. Both players checked a second time and Rubie tabled {A-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}. Merson shook his head and mucked his hand.

Relentless Rubie

Brendon Rubie is running the show thus far at the unofficial final table. In two back to back hands, he added about 400,000 to his stack.

First, he opened to 25,000 in the hijack. Calls from Greg Merson in the cutoff and Timothy Adams in the big blind landed a {J-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop. Adams checked to Rubie who bet 48,000. Only Merson came along to see the {10-Spades} turn where Rubie bet 104,000. Another call from Merson landed the {5-Clubs} river. Rubie fired a third bullet, this one for 269,000. A quick fold from Merson gave Rubie the pot.

The following hand, James Schaaf opened to 30,000 on the button. Rubie re-raised to 95,000 from the big blind, but Schaaf came right back over the top with a four-bet to 200,000. Rubie, though, five-bet to 427,000. Schaaf shrugged his shoulders and quickly folded his hand.

Adams Gets Involved

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Timothy Adams has been selective today.
Timothy Adams has been selective today.

Brendon Rubie opened for 25,000 under the gun and Anthony Gregg called on the button. Timothy Adams called from the big blind and the flop fell {J-Spades} {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds}. Adams checked, Rubie bet 37,000, Gregg called and Adams called.

The turn brought the {2-Spades} and Adams took a solid minute to act. He counted out 88,000 and pushed it forward. Rubie and Gregg both folded and Adams took the pot.

Rubie Making Things Tough For Schaaf

Brendon Rubie opened to 25,000 in the cutoff. He was called by Greg Merson on the button and James Schaaf in the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades} and action was checked to Merson. He bet 32,000, both of his opponents called, and the {Q-Spades} hit the turn. Schaaf checked to Rubie who bet 67,000. Merson folded, but Schaaf popped it 225,000. Rubie mulled it over for about 30 seconds before re-raising to 467,000. Schaaf folded his hand pretty quickly, giving the pot to Rubie.

Schaaf Put to Painful Decision

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Anthony Gregg opened to 24,000 and James Schaaf raised to 65,000 behind him on the button. The blinds released and Gregg moved all in.

Schaaf was visibly unhappy with the shove. He picked cards up off the felt and kept staring at just one card. He asked for a count and Gregg's bet was 364,000 to call.

Schaaf hemmed and hawed for a few moments and kept looking back at his hole cards. He eventually folded but his actions strongly suggested he wanted to play the hand.

Gregg Doubles Through Rubie

Timothy Adams raised to 25,000 from the hijack and Brendon Rubie three-bet to 52,000 in the cutoff. Anthony Gregg four-bet all in for 161,000 total from the small blind and Adams released his hand.

Rubie called with {J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, trailing the {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} of Gregg. The flop fell {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} to give Rubie a straight draw. He added a flush draw to that when the {5-Clubs} turn hit, but the {K-Hearts} river was safe for Gregg to double through to 369,000.

Schaaf Chipping Up

Greg Merson opened to 20,000 on the button and James Schaaf defended his big blind.

The flop came down {7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and Schaaf checked. Merson bet 27,000, Schaaf popped it to 60,000, and Merson folded after about 15 seconds.

Since doubling up eventual sixth-place finished Torrey Reily on the first hand of the day, Schaaf has added about 1,000,000 in chips to his stack.
