Robert Mizrachi was eliminated before the last break. He had pocket aces and went to flop with an opponent who held pocket sevens. The flop came 
and Mizrachi couldn't catch a third ace.
Having nursed her short stack right through to the last break, Karina Jett got it in shortly after play resumed holding 
but lost the flip for her tournament life against Franz Poperschnig's 
.
Another queen in the window was enough to seal the deal.

As Phil Hellmuth's stack has gotten shorter, so has his fuse, in particular with regard to his neighbor to his right, Mark Newhouse. The two were jawing back and forth fairly consistently for the last part of Level 4, and as the break arrived Hellmuth called the floor over to voice a complaint.
"In six weeks, I've not asked for protection one time," said Hellmuth to Tournament Director Steve Frezer as Newhouse stood by. "This guy's been a complete a**hole, and should get a warning."
Frezer listened further, then said to both that his ruling was for the two players simply not to talk to each other going forward. He added further clarification to the dealers that "if anything disparaging is said by either of them -- be it the f-word or 'moron' or what have you -- there's going to be a penalty."
Frezer then repeated the warning to the whole table before the first hand of Level 5 was dealt, by which time it appeared Newhouse and Hellmuth were on better terms than 20 minutes ago.
Newhouse begins Level 5 with 74,325, while Hellmuth has but 5,300. We'll keep an eye on both players' stacks. And keep an ear out as well for anything else of interest to report.

The players are (mostly) back in their seats, and the cards are in the air with the final level of Day 1c.

Right now, we've got Connor Allisen and Nathan Amar atop our counts with more than 115,000 chips apiece, but they'll have a hard time staying up there. Adam Junglen, Ted Forrest, and Sorel Mizzi are among those in the chase pack, and the last level figures to see some big pots pushed around.
We're four levels deep in this Day 1c, and the players are taking their final break of the day. It'll be twenty minutes again, and we'll be back here to finish this thing out shortly.

As the players started to make their way out of the Amazon Blue section, Nenad Medic got the last of his money in with 
but Tom Roupe called him down with
Despite picking up two clubs on the 
flop, Nenad couldn't find the fifth one he needed to stay alive. Not that it mattered - Medic hadn't even looked up from his Chinese Poker game on his iPad the entire day and was still transfixed as he got up out of his seat to take his leave.
Hopefully there's an app to fix sore necks.

A few Poker Hall of Famers are in action here on Day 1c including Phil Hellmuth, Bobby Baldwin, and Dan Harrington. In addition, fellow member TJ Cloutier, who played and survived Day 1a, has been making the rounds wishing various players luck. Needless to say, there is a lot of history at the Rio today.
