Vladimir Shchemelev Eliminated in 8th Place ($25,174)

Level 24 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Vladimir Shchemelev
Vladimir Shchemelev

Bradley Helm raised on the button and Vladimir Shchemelev called in the big blind. The flop was {K-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and Shchemelev checked. Helm bet and Shchemelev answered with a check raise which Helm called. Shchemelev led out on the {6-Spades} turn and Helm called. On the {3-Diamonds} river, Shchemelev moved all in and Helm made the call. Helm showed {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs} for a straight and the second nut-low. Shchemelev could only produce {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades} for two pair and was out. He immediately went off in Russian at the dealer but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), we couldn’t understand what he said. Helm was up to 565,000 after the hand.

Kostas Kalathakis raised to 40,000 and Travis Pearson called to see a flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. Kalathakis bet and Pearson raised. Call.

Pearson fired 40,000 on the {5-Hearts} turn and Kalathakis check-called with the remaining 8,000 of Pearson going in on the {10-Spades} river.

"I have ace-deuce and tens," said Kalathakis showing {A-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

"It's good," replied Pearson, showing [AxQx7x3] for a worse pair and the secod nut low. Eight players remain.

Back to Back for Barbaro Over Waxman

Level 24 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

Travis Pearson raised in mid position and was called by Francesco Barbaro who was next to act as well as Matthew Waxman in the big blind. The flop rolled out {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Waxman led out. Pearson got out of the way and Barbaro stuck around. The {6-Spades} turn and {3-Clubs} river both went check bet call. Barbaro showed {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for top two pair and Waxman mucked.

Shortly after, Barbaro came in with a raise UTG and was called by Kostas Kalathakis, Matthew Waxman and Travis Pearson. The {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop was checked around to Waxman who bet and was only called by Barbaro. On the {2-Clubs} turn, Barbaro check called Waxman’s bet. Once the {Q-Spades} hit the river, Barbaro led out. Waxman asked if Barbaro had flopped the nuts and after a few minutes, made the crying call. Barbaro indeed flopped the nuts with {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and moved up to 1,135,000 after the hand while Waxman dropped down to 765,000.

Brenes Can't Hide His Disappointment

Level 24 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes

Humberto Brenes made it three bets from the small blind against button raiser Francesco Barbaro. The Costa Rican Team PokerStars Pro fired 20,000 on the {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop and 40,000 on the {3-Hearts} turn before both players checked the {8-Clubs} river. Brenes showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} but Barbaro managed to take half the pot with his live four holding of {A-}{4-}{10-}{10-}.

Richard Monroe Eliminated in 10th Place ($15,484)

Level 24 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

There was heavy action on a {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop between Richard Monroe and Matthew Waxman. On the {J-Diamonds} turn, Waxman bet and Monroe called. When the {A-Spades} hit the river, Waxman bet enough to put Monroe all in. He made the call and Waxman showed {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Hearts} for top set which was good enough to eliminate Monroe. Waxman was up to 980,000 after the hand.

Waxman Scoops

Level 24 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

Matt Waxman raised to 30,000 in the next hand as well with Travis Pearson and Humberto Brenes both calling to see a {A-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop. Waxman bet and both others called to see the {10-Diamonds} turn. Now Waxman checked and Pearson bet but both Brenes and Pearson made the call this time.

The {7-Diamonds} came on the river all three checked, Brenes showed {A-Hearts}{2-}{5-}{8-} but Waxman flipped {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} which was good for aces up and a three-five low for the entire pot.

Deveronica Avoids Elimination

Level 24 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

Matt Waxman raised to 30,000 and Michael Deveronica called in the small blind.

The flop was {8-Hearts}{J-Spades}{2-Clubs} and Deveronica led out, Waxman set him all in and Deveronica called.

Deveronica: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Waxman: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}

Deveronica was ahead but Waxman had lots of outs to both chop and scoop the pot, the {K-Diamonds} however gave Deveronica a lock on the high hand. The {4-Spades} river made Waxman the nut low and they chopped the pot.
