Siegel Tanks and Tanks and Folds

Over on the feature table, Jordan Siegel opened to 42,000 from middle position, and with the action on Daniel Chamberlain in the small blind he slid in 60,000.

With that amount falling under the minimum raise amount, he was forced to make it 62,000 to go as Siegel made the call.

The flop fell down {J-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Chamberlain led out for 83,000 with Siegel quickly making the call as the {7-Clubs} landed on the turn.

Taking nearly ninety seconds, Chamberlain led out strongly once again; this time for 165,000 as Siegel once again quickly made the call.

The river landed the {2-Diamonds} and Chamberlain moved all in for over 1,300,000 to put Siegel to a test for roughly his last 320,000.

With Siegel resting his head on his perched left hand while shuffling chips in the other, he went deep into the tank contemplating a decision for his tournament life on just the very first hand of day six play.

Two minutes went by before Siegel finally looked up before resting his head on his right hand, and then both, before finally returning to his right as he sank deeper into his chair while staring directly at his cards.

Another minute went by before Siegel tossed his cards into the muck to see Chamberlain collect the pot to move to 2,000,000 in chips.

Hot Start for Habib

On the first hand of the day, Hasan Habib open-raised all in from under the gun for his entire stack of 264,000 and got one caller, Paul Dlugozima sitting in the hijack seat. The others folded, and Habib showed {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. Dlugozima turned over {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}.

The flop came a dramatic {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, giving Dlugozima Broadway but Habib a set as well. The turn then brought the {J-Diamonds}, filling up Habib and making the {3-Hearts} on the river no matter.

Habib moves up to 570,000, while Dlugozima sinks into the danger zone with just 64,000 left.

Quiet Please

For the second day in a row, as soon as Jack Effel told players to shuffle up and deal, the room got incredibly quiet. Yesterday it took between thirty and sixty minutes for the players to loosen up and really start bantering with each other at the table. For now the only sound is the clicking of riffled chips.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

They players have taken their seats, unbagged their chips, exchange some nervous small chat and the immortal words have been spoken. Day 6 of the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event is now underway!

November Nine. It's an alliterative phrase that rolls off the tongue. It offers the potential of life-changing money and the opportunity to serve as a poker ambassador for a year or more. It's what every one of the 205 players left in the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event is surely starting to think about this morning as we prepare for Day 6.

Last night, 205 players were still in their seats at the end of the night when the chip bags were brought out for the sixth time (well, tenth if you count all the multiple Day 1 and Day 2 flights). Five of them managed to bag up more than 3.0 million in chips: Theo Jorgensen, Duy Le, Joseph Cheong, Michael Skender and Evan Lamprea.

Lamprea is the leader with 3,564,000 chips, but at limits of 8,000 and 16,000 a difference of a few hundred thousand chips isn't as large as it seems. Beyond that, starting the day as the chip leader doesn't guarantee anything for anybody. Just ask Day 4 overnight chip leader Tony Dunst, who went from the pole position at the start of Day 5 almost all the way to what we like to call the Dank Position (last in chips) by the end of the night. Dunst started Day 5 with 1.5 million in chips, 1st of 574 players. He ended Day 5 with 327,000 chips, 182nd out of 205 players. A lot can happen during a long day of poker.

We're not sure how many levels are going to be played today. The schedule calls for five levels, but the schedule has been very fluid the last few days as TD Jack Effel has sought to ensure that the field plays down in a timely fashion to reach the November Nine Saturday night. If we need to play an extra level or two, you can be sure Effel will add them to today's schedule.

Cards will be in the air in about twenty minutes.
