He's Back, Baby

One of the few remaining Main Event champions Scotty Nguyen was just all in preflop with pocket kings and up against pocket eights for his tournament life. Nguyen was all in for 32,800 in chips.

The board ran through {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{J-Spades} and Nguyen successfully doubled up. to over 75,000 in chips.

Anderson Adding

A player in middle position opened with a raise and it folded to David Anderson on the button. Anderson, incidentally, is the Manager of Basketball Operations at Lehigh University, his allegiance to Lehigh indicated by the words on the back of his shoes -- "Go" and "Hawks."

Anderson reraised to 18,500, the blinds folded, then the original raiser pushed all in for 83,000 total. Anderson made the call.

Anderson showed {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, and his opponent {A-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}. The flop came a dramatic {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{q-Clubs}, giving Anderson a full house and his opponent trip aces. The drama soon ended, though, after the {7-Spades} turn and {2-Clubs} river.

Another player hits the rail, while Anderson moves up to 610,000.

Cowboys for Corkins

Hoyt Corkins opened to 7,200 from the hijack seat and Aaron Nadell called in the cutoff. The button and blinds released, and the flop fell {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Spades}.

Corkins continued for 12,000 Nadell raised to 28,000 and Corkins re-popped it to 60,000.

Nadell jumped up in his seat. "How much are you playing?" he asked Corkins. Corkins made all of his 97,200 chips visible, and Nadell made the call.

The turn brought the {j-Clubs} and Corkins instantly moved all in.

"How much?" Nadell asked the dealer.

The dealer cut it down and verified that it was 97,200. Nadell let out a huge sigh and slid in enough chips to call.

Showdown
Corkins: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Nadell: {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}

The {7-Hearts} on the river did not improve Nadell's hand, and Corkins' cowboys held. Corkins doubled to 330,000 chips while Nadell slipped all the way down to 85,000.

Antonius Going Up

With the board spread {7-Spades}{k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and with more than 55,000 chips in the pot, Patrik Antonius fired a 43,000-chip bet. His opponent check-folded and Antonius is now up to 210,00 chips.

Antonius, as always, is very relaxed at the table and building a stack.

Harris Lanced

Lance Harris has been snipered down. His assassin was Eric Blair who rid his foe in a battle of the blinds encounter, Harris moving all in from the big blind with {A-Spades}{2-Hearts} and being snapped off by {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. A {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} board later and Harris was pushing up the poker daises.

Savage Savaged

Vitaly Lunkin raised to 6,000 under the gun and a couple seats down Matt Savage shoved for his last 35,000 or so. It folded around to David Frazee on the button, who reshoved to cover Lunkin.

Lunkin now disappeared into the tank for a full five minutes. He seemed to be counting on his fingers for a while, before dropping his face into his hands and then chewing on his thumbs for a bit. Eventually, after double- and triple-checking his hole cards, perhaps hoping that they would magically turn into different ones, he folded.

So, on their backs.

Savage: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Frazee: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Board: {2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

With a polite, "Good luck," Savage was gone.

Kathy Liebert Eliminated

Kathy Liebert opened for a 6,000 raise from under-the-gun and the small blind called. The flop came down {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and the small blind led into Liebert for 15,000. She responded with a shoved and her opponent made the call.

Liebert {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}
Mr. Small Blind {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Liebert's overcards and open-ended straight draw were up against the small blind's top pair and flush draw, making her about a 2-1 dog. The {8-Clubs} on the turn was no help for Liebert, nor was the {5-Spades} on the river, and the all-time women's tournament money winner was sent to the rail.

Mercier Faces River Raise

Catching the action on the turn on a board of {K-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{A-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, Jason Mercier led out with a bet of 6,100 and the player on the button made the call to see the {j-Hearts} fall on the river.

Mercier came out betting once again for 13,500, but his opponent quickly splashed the pot with ten 5,000-denomination chips to announce a raise.

"Nine-ten huh?" sighed Mercier as he tossed his cards into the muck. He slips to 150,000.
