Rho Petering Out

Peter Rho has taken a bit of a hit after checking the river of a {10-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades} board from the hijack, only for the gentleman in the cutoff to bet 10,000 - a rather small bet, considering that there was already 60,000 or so in the pot. Rho thought about it for some time, before shaking his head and pushing his cards back to the dealer.

Rho dropped back to 170,000.

Interwebz

As we reported earlier, Roderic Boling has it out for online player Billy "Patrolman35" Kopp over at Table 270.

In a recent hand, the two were in a pot with another opponent as well. When we reached the table, the board had already been dealt {9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Boling led for 12,000. Kopp instantly called and after a moment or two the other player called as well.

Showdown
Boling: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Kopp: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}

"Gotta be f***in' kiddin' me," Boling quipped.

"Tricky internet kids," Kopp returned with a grin.

Kopp was shipped the pot, and is now up to 225,000 chips.

Varkonyi and Selbst Tangle Again

Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

Robert Varkonyi opened with a raise to 4,500 from the cutoff, and Vanessa Selbst called from the button. The blinds got out, and the flop came {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. Varkonyi bet 9,000, then Selbst raised to 26,000. "Seventeen more?" Varkonyi asked of the dealer. His math confirmed, Varkonyi made the call.

The turn was the {K-Clubs}. This time Varkonyi bet 25,000. Selbst leaned over to see how much he had left, then made the call.

The river was the {K-Diamonds}. Now it was Varkonyi leaning over to see what Selbst had left -- more than he. He then announced he was all in. Selbst went deep into the tank, then finally made the call.

When the two players revealed their hands, both were surprised at what they saw. Varkonyi tabled {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}. And Selbst {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}! Again the pair was chopping up a big pot.

"You're so lucky, that's the worst hand I could have there," said Selbst, shaking her head. "How can you call that?" said Varkonyi with a grin.

Selbst has about 240,000 at present, while Varkonyi has 145,000.

Kostritsyn Over 500k

Facing a raise to 5,100 from early position, Allen Cunningham three-bet from the cutoff to 13,100.

With the action on Alexander Kostritsyn in the big blind, he four-bet to 32,000 to prompt an insta-fold from the original raiser.

Cunningham looked down at his hole cards once more before tossing them into the muck to slip to 72,200 as Kostritsyn climbs over the half a million mark; currently 505,000 in chips.

Devilfish Drowned on the River

David Ulliott
David Ulliott

David "Devilfish" Ulliott had been nursing a short stack for the past couple levels when he pushed all in with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} over his opponent's 5,500 bet. His opponent made the call and turned over {Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

Devilfish was in great position to double up, but the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{J-Clubs} flop gave his opponent a flush draw. The {9-Clubs} on the turn changed nothing. Unfortunately for the Devilfish, the river was the {6-Clubs}, giving his opponent a pair of sixes.

The Devilfish was quite composed as he made his exit from the tournament area.

Greenstein Crippled

Barry Greenstein opened for 5,000 in late position and the gentleman in the small blind made it 18,000 to go. Greenstein made it 58,000, the small blind made it all in for 130,700, and Greenstein made the call.

Small blind gentleman: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Greenstein: extremely behind with {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Board: {4-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{a-Spades}

Greenstein completely failed to improve and dropped right down to 68,000 - around two thirds of his stack vanished into the stack of his opponent with that hand.

Mercer Spikes, Doubles

Heather Sue Mercer re-raiesd all in for about 25,000 pre-flop after a player opened for 5,000 in early position. That player called, taking his {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} against Mercer's {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}. There was no help for Mercer on a flop of {k-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, but she spiked a set when the turn fell {5-Hearts}. There was no re-suck on the river {a-Clubs}. Mercer doubled up to about 50,000.

Junglen Hooks a Double

Adam Junglen started the day with over 180,000, but he was down to his last 37,200 when he open-shoved from middle position. The next player to act opted to flat, and no one else joined them. Junglen showed {j-Hearts}{j-Spades} and was ahead of his opponent's {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}{q-Spades} flop had the other player calling for a jack, but the dealer brought running deuces instead. Junglen doubled back to 80,100.

Kanter Can't Beat Kings

With the board showing {2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and about 60,000 in the middle, Aaron Kanter was facing an opponent's all-in bet of 38,000. He tanked for some time, and finally the clock was called. As time ran out, Kanter made the call.

Kanter showed {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for an overpair, but his opponent had an even better overpair -- {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}. The river was the {9-Diamonds}, and Kanter slips to 95,000.
