EPT London champion Michael Martin opened for 1,000 in mid position and big stack Robert Miller reraised to 3,200 in the cutoff. Back to Martin who made it 9,000, and then back to Miller, who went all in. Martin called all in for 16,000, and they were on their backs.
Martin:
Miller: a rather optimistic
Board: ... wait for it ...
Yuk. Miller rivered a straight, and was up to an impressive 155,000. The hapless Martin, however, is now at the rail.
A player raised to 1,500 from under the gun and was called by Mori Eskandani as well as the small blind.
The flop came and the small blind led out for 2,300. The original raiser folded but Eskandani raised to 11,300. The small blind made the call, putting himself all in.
Eskandani:
Small blind:
The player in the small blind had flopped top pair, but Eskandani was ahead with his pocket jacks. The turn was the with the river bringing the . That was enough for Eskandani to score the knock out. He is now up to 50,000 in chips.
We've lost several notable early here in the Orange Section. Jeff Williams, George Danzer and Perry Friedman have all been eliminate. Williams got his stack in with pocket tens against pocket kings and actually flopped a ten. But his opponent caught running clubs to make a club flush on an unpaired board.
Friedman got his short stack into the middle with and was called by a player with . That player paired queens on the turn to drag the pot and collect a signed, "Uncle Sam" hat from Friedman.
With the board reading , two players were heads up over on Table 286 including Simpsons creator Sam Simon. Simon's opponent checked-called 6,000, and the river brought the .
Both players checked and Simon showed for two pair. His opponent opened for rivered trips however, and Simon slipped to 14,000 chips.
Vanessa Rousso started the day with more than 100,000 chips in her stack but is now back down into five-figure territory. She was one of four players to the turn, . The small blind bet 1,300 and was called by Rousso and the player in the cutoff. When the turn came , action checked to the cutoff. Only Rousso called his bet of 2,300, and she couldn't beat the nut flush, . She's now down to about 94,000.
Jon Van Fleet may have started the day with a healthy stack of chips, but he just lost about 20,000 to an opponent who managed to double-up with the help of a runner-runner straight.
All the chips were in on the flop and Van Fleet was looking good with a set against his opponent's top pair.
Van Fleet:
Opponent:
The board was reading by the time the chips went in. When the river brought the into play, Van Fleet's opponent had picked up a gut-shot straight-draw, which he hit with the on the river.
The 2010 WSOP just became less aesthetically pleasing as Shannon Elizabeth busted within just a couple of hands.
On the first, she raised to 1,200 before calling a three-bet to 5,500 from Ali Sarkeshik and folding to a bet on a queen high board. Her remaining chips went with versus .
[Disclaimer - blame Sarkeshik for any inaccurate info!]
A gentleman in mid position opened for 1,100 and Orel Hershiser called in the small blind to see a flop which both players checked.
They proceeded to the turn and Hershiser checked again. His opponent bet 1,050, and Hershiser now check-raised to 6,025. The other player, however, went all in, and Hershiser folded. He dropped right down to 9,000.
"Ace jack?" he asked. "Got to be ace jack. I folded two pair."
Back-to-back hands for 2009 November Niner Darvin Moon resulted in one pot being pushed away from him and one pot being pushed towards him. First, Moon called an early-position raise to 1,125 from the big blind. He checke-raised a flop from 2,100 to 5,000. His opponent called. Both players checked the turn and river.
"I got the nine," said Moon. No good. His opponent showed down two kings, , to take the pot.
The very next hand, Moon and the same player tangled from the blinds. They were part of a a limped flop of . Moon's opponent bet 1,200, with only Moon making the call from the small blind. Both players checked the turn when it fell . Another ace, , hit the river and drew a bet of 2,200 from Moon. His opponent called with pocket sevens, which were in second place to Moon's trips, .
