Although we just reported Gavin Smith had dropped down to under 30,000, he's now back up to 70,000 after doubling up with on a board. We missed the action, so we don't know when the chips got in the middle, except that it wasn't preflop, as Smith's opponent did not show his hand.
2010 World Series of Poker
An early-position player raised the pot pre-flop to 2,400 and was called only by Vanessa Selbst. On a flop of , the pre-flop raiser continued for 3,100. Selbst made the call a second time.
That call seemed to slow down Selbst's opponent. He checked the turn, , then called a bet of 8,300, taking the two players to the river. That's where the board paired with the . Again the pre-flop raiser checked, then instantly open-folded after Selbst bet. Selbst proudly opened for four jacks. In addition to winning the pot, she also won a promotional bag of jerky products from Jack Link's Beef Jerky.
"I'm so excited about my beef jerky," said Selbst dryly. She's now sitting behind 280,000 in chips and a ticket for a bag of beef jerky products.
You may recall me mentioning a Chris Ferguson lookalike from earlier who I'd witnessing signing autographs in the hallway. Well, what I didn't know is that he's actually here playing today in the Main Event!
As a side bet, I wagered with danafish as to whether or not he'd say his name was Chris Ferguson if we inquired. I asked the chap dressed as Batman earlier, and he'd replied "Batman", so I had high hopes for this venture.
Sadly, and despite muttering what we initially thought was the well known pro's name, the doppelganger is actually called Craig Strobel. Unlike Jesus, though, Strobel is still in today's event, and not too far off the average with 60,000.
Once again, danafish emptied my pockets.
James Mackey was all in for about 31,000 with , but ran into Sasha Rosewood's .
Mackey found no help as the board ran out and reported to the rail.
Rosewood is up to about 263,500.
Brett Richey raised to 2,700 preflop. Dan Bilzerian called from the small blind and the big blind called as well. The flop came down and the blinds checked to Richey. He fired a bet of 4,500 and won the pot.
Richey's currently on just under 100,000 in chips.
On a flop, Humberto Brenes checked to his opponent, who bet 3,100. Brenes raised to 9,100 and was met with a shove.
"You have ace-king!" said Brenes as he made the call. His opponent turned over... , but Brenes had outflopped him with .
Brenes still had to fade diamonds, however, but the turn and river safely fell the and the . Brenes' opponent hit the rail and the Costa Rican "Chark" moved up to 134,000.
From under the gun, Bryan Micon raised to 2,500. The cutoff seat flatted before the flop came down . Micon fired a continuation bet of 3,700. His opponent raised to 10,200. After a minute in the tank, Micon moved all in for about 40,000. His opponent said, "I'll gamble with you," and called.
Micon tabled the for a set of nines. His opponent was far from dead with the for straight and flush draws.
The turn was the and gave Micon's opponent a straight to the nine. Micon was at-risk in the hand and would need the board to pair on the river in order to stay alive.
The river card was the though and not the board pair that Micon needed to stick around here in the 2010 WSOP Main Event. Micon hit the rail and will have to wait until next year for more WSOP action.
A brutally painful day for Tom Schneider has finally come to an end. He was trying to grind the short stack for almost the entire day and finally pushed all in for 6,600 on a flop of . One player folded, but a second on the button called with . Schneider tabled two sevens, , and couldn't improve. An ESPN camera crew watched him vanish out a side door of the Amazon Room about twenty minutes before the end of the day.
Sigurd Eskeland raised to 2,500 from under the gun and was called by the button and small blind. After the flop came down , action checked to Eskeland and he fired 5,000. Both his opponents folded to give Eskeland the pot.
Eskeland won his first bracelet this year in the $2,500 Mixed Event. He beat Steve Sung heads up for take home over $260,000 for the win. In the Main Event right now, Eskeland's up to about 170,000 in chips and going strong.
David Benyamine reached a flop from the blinds where he check-called a bet of 4,200. On the turn, however, Benyamine check-folded to a bet of 8,400.
From watching him today, I imagine that if you're going to play a flop with the Frenchman with a weak holding, you're going to have to follow through on future streets - maybe this was one of those times.
Benyamine on 160,000.
