Sight of Red Makes El Matador Flee

After some preflop action had already built a sizable pot, three players -- including Carlos "El Matador" Mortensen -- all checked the {J-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop.

The turn was the {Q-Hearts}, and Mortensen responded with a bet of 5,000 from the small blind. The player in early position called, leaving himself just 150 chips behind. Then the player sitting in middle position reraised to 13,000. Mortensen called, and the EP player committed his last chips.

The river was the {2-Hearts}. Mortensen checked, and the MP player shoved all in with a bet that more than covered Mortensen's stack. Mortensen folded his pocket nines face up. The MP player showed {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts} -- he'd turned the straight, and rivered the flush. The third player turned over {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} and was eliminated.

Mortensen is down to 12,000 now.
