Esfandiari Fading

Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari
Under the gun, Joseph Cada came in with a raise to 250,000, and the betting folded most of the way around the table. From the button though, Antonio Esfandiari three-bet it up to 805,000. The small blind ducked out, but James Akenhead wasn't going anywhere from the big. After some deep thought, he came over the top of both players with a healthy raise to 2,150,000. Cada quickly folded, and Esfandiari reluctantly let his cards go as well, dropping more than one third of his chip stack with that failed three-bet. He is now the shortest stack in the field with just over 1.5 million in chips.

Buchman Opens-Ships Three Million

Eric Buchman decided not to make one of his more normal raises, but instead open-shoved slightly over three million into the middle. Jonathan Tamayo asked for a count and when he found out, made the call.

Tamayo tabled {J-Hearts} {J-Spades} and then the dealer turned over Buchman's hand -- {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. The crowd sprung to their feet to watch the action as Tamayo's rail cheered.

The flop was gin for Buchman when it came {9-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {2-Hearts}. Buchman is rarely emotional, but again slapped his hands together and yelled, "Yes!"

The turn was the {6-Spades} which officially ended things. The river completed the board with the {6-Clubs} and Tamayo sent the chips over.

Luis Nargentino Eliminated in 29th Place ($253,941)

Luis Nargentino - eliminated
Luis Nargentino - eliminated
We're one player away from finishing for the day after a recent hand on Blue #2. Ben Lamb opened for 265,000 from middle position and was called by Luis Nargentino and big blind Phil Ivey. Ivey checked to the raiser on a flop of {J-Spades} {7-Spades} {9-Hearts}. Lamb obliged with a bet of 480,000. Nargentino considered his options before moving in for 1.625 million total. Ivey quickly folded and Lamb quickly called.

Lamb: {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}
Nargentino: {A-Spades} {5-Spades}

Nargentino had the nut flush draw and must have been dismayed to see Lamb turn up top pair, top kicker, killing Nargentino's outs to an ace. The turn and river were black cards but both were clubs -- {6-Clubs} and {4-Clubs}. Lamb had Nargentino covered and as a result Nargentino is out of the tournament.

Lamb moves to about 8 million in chips.

Tamayo Doubles Through Kopp

The flop was {8-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} and Jeff Shulman checked. Jonathan Tamayo bet out 510,000 before Billy Kopp raised to two million. Shulman folded and Tamayo went into the tank. He looked pained by Kopp's raise, but after some thought, decided to move all in. Kopp quickly called.

Kopp tabled {A-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} and Tamayo held {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}.

The turn was the {J-Spades} and no help for Kopp. He needed an ace, an eight, or a diamond on the river.

Kopp wouldn't get it when the {10-Clubs} fell. He sent the 3.2 million over that he owed to Tamayo.

Marco Over Saout

Small pots, few showdowns over here on the non-feature tables thus far in Level 29.

It folded around to Marco Mattes in the small blind who completed, and Antoine Saout checked from the big blind. The flop came {J-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, and both players checked. Both also checked the {5-Hearts} turn.

The river was the {Q-Spades}. This time Mattes bet 150,000, and Saout called. Mattes showed {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, and Saout mucked.

Mattes is at 4.3 million, while Saout has 9.6 million.

Moon Waxing This Table

Francois Balmigere and David Moon
Francois Balmigere and David Moon
Before the flop, Joseph Cada came in with a raise to 250,000 from middle position. Francois Balmigere made the call, and Darvin Moon came along from the button as well.

Three handed then, the flop came out {10-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}. Cada checked, Balmigere bet 550,000, Moon called, and Cada ducked out of the way. The turn card brought the {2-Hearts}, and Balmigere fired another 1,075,000 chips at the pot. After some quick consideration, Moon raised it up to 2,200,000. Balmigere spent little time in the tank before eventually making the call.

The last card off was the {5-Diamonds}, and Balmigere checked again. Moon fired a cool 2,000,000 into the pot, and his opponent tanked for several minutes before sending his cards back to the dealer.

With that pot, Moon crawls his way up very close to the chip leader. He's at 15,000,000 plus or minus a couple green chips, putting him neck-and-neck for the top spot on the board.

Flop Raise Wins It for Lacay

With the action folded to him in the small blind, Jesse Haabak made it 320,000 to go and Ludovic Lacay called from the big blind.

Haabak led out for $445,000 on the {6-Spades} {6-Clubs} {2-Clubs} flop, Lacay raised to 1.2 million and Haabak folded, his stack down to 2.9 million. Lacay climbed back to 4 million.

Ward Survives Flip

Joe Ward doubles up
Joe Ward doubles up
Joe Ward was rocking 10 million before the dinner break. Now he's one of the shortest stacks with just 1.75 million. When action passed to him in middle position, he open-shoved all of those chips into the middle. Luis "Don't Cry For Me" Nargentino asked for a count and then called from the cutoff. Nobody else entered the pot.

Ward: {6-Clubs} {6-Spades}
Nargentino: {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}

Cue the drama, cue the cameras and then cue the flop!

Flop: {3-Clubs} {5-Spades} {4-Clubs}

"Ace is no good anymore," Ward said excitedly. Then he realized his error at the same time as several other players pointed it out. "I meant deuces is no good." The turn came {8-Hearts} and the river was a mild heart-stopper -- it was paint, but the {K-Diamonds}. Ward's sixes held to double him up to about 3.7 million.

"I get way too nervous in these situations," Ward told the table. "I can't count my chips, can't read the board... I'm not cut out for this."

Kopp Takes Four Million from Tamayo

Billy Kopp raised to 250,000 from middle position and only Jonathan Tamayo called out of the small blind. The flop came down {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {J-Spades}. Tamayo checked and Kopp fired out 450,000. Tamayo made the call.

The turn brought the {4-Hearts} and Tamayo checked again. Kopp wasn't about to let Tamayo get a free pass here; he fired one million. Tamayo made the call.

The river was the {7-Clubs} and Tamayo checked again. Kopp reached for more chips and made a bet of 2.6 million. Tamayo announced a call.

Kopp turned up {Q-Spades} {10-Spades} for trip queens and Tamayo mucked his hand, shaking his head in the process.
