Fellows Doubles

A short-stacked Zac Fellows has managed to double to over 7,000 when his {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} held up against {A-Spades}{4-Spades} when all the money went in on the {6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} board.

No spade fell on the river, and Fellows has a little breathing room now after being down to only 3,000 at one point.

Orel Hershiser Runs Into a Set

Orel Hershiser
Orel Hershiser
With 6,000 in the pot on a board of {K-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}, a player bet 2,800. Orel Hershiser made the call.

The river brought the {A-Diamonds} and both players checked it down.

Hershiser showed {J-Hearts} {3-Hearts} for a pair of threes and a missed flush draw while his opponent flipped over {8-Diamonds} {8-Spades} for a set of eights.

Naujoks Goes Runner Runner

Sandra Naujoks
Sandra Naujoks
Sandra Naujoks called a standard preflop raise from the big blind and went heads up to a flop of {6-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

Naujoks check-called for 1,500 on the flop and both players checked the {8-Spades} on the turn. The river paired the board with the {8-Diamonds} and Naujoks check-called another 1,500. When her opponent showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, Naujoks turned over {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for trips on the river. She now has 34,000.

A Cold Welcome for Hua

C.K. Hua has just taken the empty seat over at the main featured table, and he's off to a bad start. On one of his first hands there, he ran a set of deuces into a set of threes, and both players filled up on the river. Hua managed to avoid losing his whole stack, but he's down to about 11,000.

De Wolfe Mucks to the Overbet

Roland de Wolfe opened for 450 from early position, the cutoff called and the big blind reraised to 1,500, earning calls from both players.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {5-Hearts} and the action was checked around. The turn was the {10-Hearts} and the big blind led out for 3,000. De Wolfe called and the cutoff folded. The river fell the {Q-Spades} and the big blind moved all in for 14,200. De Wolfe gave up his hand and the big blind took it down, leaving de Wolfe on 26,400 in chips.

Howard and Suzie Lederer's Charity Tournament

Since we have charity on our minds these days, let's talk about another recent star-studded charity event. On July 1st, a strong contingent of poker players and celebrities turned out for Howard and Suzie Lederer's tournament with the proceeds benefitting the Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas. There were a ton of prizes up for grabs, including a seat on NBC's Poker After Dark for the winner. All of the action on the felt was followed up by some action on the grill as the Lederers also hosted the World Series of BBQ. Check it out:

Mattern's Top Two Good

We came upon Arnaud Mattern's table as he pondered a river call, the board reading {J-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}. With 6,000 already in the pot, the small blind fired out 4,000 and Mattern tanked for several minutes before tossing in a call.

His {K-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} was good against the small blind's {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds} and Mattern raked in the 18,000 pot, taking his stack back up to 32,000.

Colin Reaches for the Top

We're less than three hours into the day and already Bryan Colin has more than tripled up. Colin is sitting behind 96,000 chips after getting all in with {7-Hearts} {7-Spades} against an opponent with {5-Spades} {5-Hearts} on a {5-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {k-Spades} flop. Yep, it was set over set (again!). Neither player improved on the turn {8-Clubs} or river {Q-Clubs}.

By eliminating his opponent, Colin climbed all the way to 96,000 in chips.

Yang Gets in Gear

Jerry Yang raised to 700 from under-the-gun and got called in three spots, including the button and the big blind.

Action checked to Yang on a flop of {9-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and he bet 2,000. A player behind min-raised to 4,000 and the button and big blind both folded. Yang called and then bet 5,000 more when the turn brought the {3-Diamonds}. His opponent called.

The {3-Hearts} on the river brought another 17,000 bet from Yang and this time, his opponent tanked before folding. Before reaching for the pot, Yang said "I'll show you one," before turning over the {K-Spades}. He later claimed to have been holding pocket kings.

His stack now stands at 55,000.
