Greed Is Good

So said Gordon Gekko. Word is they're working on a sequel to Wall Street. While we wait for that, the final day of Event No. 56 will do.

Matt Hawrilenko opened with a big raise to 170,000 from the button, and Robert Kay repopped it to 600,000 from the big blind. As Hawrilenko considered the situation for the next half-minute or so, Kay looked straight at his opponent unblinkingly. Finally, Hawrilenko let it go.

"You're being greedy!" cracked Sean Keeton, a post-hand commentary on Kay's play. Kay and Hawrilenko are both hovering right around the 1.2 million mark at the moment.

Shorter-Handed

With just 13 players left, we are now looking at two four-handed tables and one five-handed. One more elimination and they will redraw for the final two tables.

Peter Feldman Eliminated in 14th Place ($37,379)

A tough couple of hands has spelled an early exit for Peter Feldman, one of the chip leaders entering the last day of play.

In his final hand, preflop action had built a modest-sized pot before the flop came {8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, Feldman checked to Thorsten Schaefer who bet 115,000 from the button. Feldman then check-raised to 295,000 total. Schaefer said he was all in, and Feldman quickly called.

Feldman {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Schaefer {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

Bad news for Feldman. The turn was the {3-Hearts} and the river the {Q-Hearts}, and Feldman is out. Schaefer is the current chip leader now with 1.875 million.

Eugene Katchalov Eliminated in 15th Place ($37,379)

The table folded around to Eugene Katchalov who completed from the small blind. James St. Hilaire contemplated a moment, then tossed out some orange (5000) chips -- a raise to 60,000 total. Katchalov quickly announced he was all in, and St. Hilaire again thought a while, then called.

St. Hilaire winced as Katchalov turned over {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. St. Hilaire tabled {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}. "Did this once before," said St. Hilaire, referring to a similar hand from late yesterday in which he'd won.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades}, and suddenly Katchalov went from way ahead to way behind. The turn was the {3-Spades} and the river the {A-Hearts}, and Katchalov is out. St. Hilaire is at 925,000.

Brikis Wheelin It In

Josh Brikis open shoved from the small blind after it was folded to him. Thorsten Schaefer, who was in the big blind, snap called after peaking down at his cards.

Brikis:{A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}
Schaefer: {K-Spades} {K-Hearts}

The flop of {3-Clubs} {4-Spades} {2-Spades} peaked the interest of Brikis as he had now picked up more outs. The turn was the {5-Clubs} giving him the wheel. River fell {Q-Spades} and Brikis is now at 530,000.

Guiglini Doubles Through Feldman

Peter Feldman just had Aurelien Guiglini all in before the flop, with Feldman holding {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} and Guilglini {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}. The flop was {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and the turn {9-Hearts}, but the river brought the {10-Clubs} to rescue Guiglini.

Guiglini now has 1.1 million, and Feldman down to 625,000.

Frank Calo Eliminated in 16th Place ($37,379)

Frank Calo - 16th Place
Frank Calo suffered a big hit after having his pocket queens cracked by an opponent holding pocket nines who hit a set. Calo then shoved his last 149,000 from under the gun, and got called by Sean Keeton.

Calo had {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, and Keeton K-Q. The flop came 5-9-K, giving Keeton kings but Calo still had a gutshot draw. But the turn and river bricked out, and Calo is out in 16th. Keeton has quickly bounced up over the one million-chip mark here in the early going.

Double The Ladies, Double The Stack

Frank Calo three bet a standard raise out of the small blind. Sean Keeton, from the big blind then announced he was all in for around 400,000. The action folded back to Calo who made the call.

Calo: {9-Hearts} {9-Spades}
Keeton: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}

The board would run out {10-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} leaving the well dressed Keeton with a doubled stack of 985,000. Meanwhile Calo drops to just 170,000.

Much Ado

Peter Feldman opened with a raise to 50,000 from the cutoff, then Thorsten Schaefer reraised to 115,000 from the big blind. Feldman repopped it to approximately 375,000, Schaefer announced he was all in, and Feldman called.

Schaefer showed {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}, and Feldman {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. The board came {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}, and they chopped.

"Boooring," cracked Alex Venovski afterwards. "One of you is supposed to have deuces there," added Josh Brikis with a grin.
