Everyone Wants to Get Into the Mix

Players continue to arrive. We've now used up all of the allotted tables for Event No. 42, and new players are being seated as soon as tables being used for Event No. 39 ($1,500 No-Limit Hold'em) break on the other side of the room. Some new faces include Roy Winston, John Racener, Toto Leonidas, Bryan Devonshire, Jason Potter, Esther Taylor, Marco Johnson, Steve Billirakis, Rep Porter, Rob Hollink, Steve Wong, and Jordan Morgan.

We're also hearing that some players -- including Gavin Griffin, Robert Williamson III, Bill Chen, and Jerrod Ankenman -- are here and ready to play, but are having to wait until chips can be provided to them and seats made available. It certainly appears this $2,500 Mixed Game event has attracted many more entrants than were initially anticipated.

Let's Play Razz

Vanessa Rousso
Vanessa Rousso
Okay, razz fans... why don't we start there?

After the dealer consulted the structure sheet and informed everyone of the ante (25) and bring in (25), Jeff Lisandro brought it in with a {J-?}, Vanessa Rousso completed (to 75) with a {7-?}, and all folded to Lisandro who called.

Both picked up nines on fourth street. Rousso bet, and Lisandro called. Rousso caught an {8-?} on fifth and Lisandro a {4-?}, but he folded to Rousso's bet, showing another {4-?} underneath as he tossed his cards away.

More Arrivals

Players continue to stream in and take seats -- indeed, most of the tables that were reserved for this event here in the back of the Brasilia Room are rapidly filling up.

Brock Parker, Jeff Madsen, Mike Matusow, Jon Turner, Mike Baxter, Matt Woodward, and Bob Laurie are all here.

Oh, and it's no dream, Sam Grizzle... Jean-Robert Bellande is here, too. For real.

Who's Not Here?

Shannon Elizabeth

Might be a better question, actually. The number of entrants is now up to 306 (and climbing). Here's a list of other folks we've recognized in field thus far:

Shannon Elizabeth, Chip Jett, David Plastik, Adam Friedman, Eric Crain, Tom Schneider, Diego Cordovez, Thor Hansen, Kristy Gazes, Tom Koral, Vanessa Rousso, Noah Boeken, Roland de Wolfe, Chad Brown, Nick Frangos, Dutch Boyd, Amnon Filippi, Yan Chen, Adam Junglen, Chris Hall, Justin Bonomo, Gavin Smith, David Daneshgar, Matt Hawrilenko, Ville Wahlbeck, Chris Reslock, Mel Judah, Jason Mercier, Jason Somerville, Dustin Sitar, George Danzer, Richard Brody, Katja Thater, C.K. Hua, Tim West, Sigi Stockinger, and Scotty Nguyen, baby.

A Lousy Low

"I just got dealt Broadway," said Dan Shak with a smile, referring to a recently completed 2-7 Triple Draw hand. "Ace-King-Queen-Jack-Ten."

Needless to say, Shak threw that one away.

Who's Here?

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu
A lot of familiar faces here for Event No. 42, including Allen Kessler, Bryan Micon, Clonie Gowen, Daniel Negreanu, Scott Clements, Maria Ho, and Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri.

Greg Mueller and James Van Alstyne are here, looking for their second WSOP bracelets of the summer. And Jeffrey Lisandro is here as well, in search of his third bracelet in 2009.

Grizzle Grins

Sam Grizzle and Anthony Rivera are both here. Currently their table is playing five-handed.

"This is too good to be true," said Grizzle. "Short-handed... hell, I might have to bust out the first level."

"You must be dreaming," said Rivera.

"Heh, if I was really dreaming then Jean-Robert [Bellande] would be here," cracked Grizzle.

The Eight-Legged Monster of WSOP Events

"We need a structure sheet at every table!"

So said Tournament Director Jack Effel just now while passing through Event No. 42. The mixed event presents special challenges to players, for sure, but keeps dealers on their toes as well.

For all of the different antes, blinds, bring-ins, completion bets, and limits for each game/level, consult that blue bar marking the beginning of a level, or take a look under the "Betting Structure" tab.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

We're underway!

Players are starting with 7,500 chips. They will begin by playing six-handed for the first two levels of today's event. When we reach Level 3, the tourney will switch to eight-handed; however, for the 2-7 Triple Draw hands, two players will take turns sitting out (those sitting in the two seats to the left of the big, or UTG & UTG+1).
