Ivey Ends Hellmuth's Day Early

Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey had put in a preflop raise from middle position, and it had folded around to Phil Hellmuth who decided to push all in for approximately 90,000 from the small blind. Ivey made the call.

Hellmuth turned over {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, finding himself behind Ivey's A-K. "He raises my blind five times, then when I make a move he's got a hand," lamented Hellmuth.

The board came {K-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, giving Ivey the hand. Thus did Hellmuth's day -- which began a couple of hours after most of the other players' -- conclude about an hour before the day's scheduled end.

Ivey now has 325,000.
