Craig Marquis Forces Out Ivan Demidov

Craig Marquis
Craig Marquis
The action was folded around to Ivan Demidov in the small blind, and after he limped Craig Marquis checked. The flop came {2-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {J-Spades}, Demidov bet 250,000 and Marquis raised to 800,000. Ivan called, and when the {6-Diamonds} fell on the flop he fired out for 1.3 million. That's when Marquis moved all in, sending Demidov into the tank. He emerged about two minutes later and tossed his cards in the muck, and Marquis pulled in a pot that pushed his stack to 12.8 million. Ivan now sits with 8.2 million.

14.7 Million Pot Builds Between Phillips and Hamrick, Ends in a Chop

Dennis Phillips limped in on the button, Scott Montgomery completed the small blind and Dean Hamrick checked his option.

The flop was {10-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {2-Spades}. Montgomery checked, Hamrick bet 425,000, Phillips raised to 1.2 million, Montgomery got out of the way, and Hamrick three-bet to 2.65 million. Phillips made the call.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds}. Hamrick bet 3,000,000 and Phillips called.

The river was the {3-Diamonds}. Hamrick checked and Phillips checked behind.

Hamrick showed {10-Spades} {4-Hearts}, Phillips showed {10-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} and they split the 14.7 million chip pot.

It's a Mystery

It was folded around to Craig Marquis in the small blind and he raised to 425,000. And Chino Rheem, in the big blind. moved all in. For 16 million.

"Chino's all in!!" shrieked a woman from the rail. And Marquis sat there trying to figure out what was going on. He frowned and said, "This just doesn't make any sense at all." Craig shook his head and finally said, "Nice hand, man" before tossing his cards in the muck, and Rheem quickly pulled his chips back and started stacking them up.

Dennis Phillips Continues to Roll

Dennis Phillips raised to 500,000 from the small blind and Scott Montgomery called from the big blind. The flop was {10-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}. Phillips led out for 800,000, Montgomery raised to 2,000,000 and Phillips made the call. Phillips then checked in the dark right before the {A-Diamonds} arrived on the turn. Montgomery checked behind. The river was the {3-Clubs}. Phillips bet 1.3 million, Montgomery folded and Phillips dragged yet another huge pot.

Phillips is now up to over 26 million.

Chino Rheem Adds to the Stack

Darus Suharto raised to 600,000 from late position and Chino Rheem called from the small blind. Both players checked the {2-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {7-Spades} flop, but when the {6-Spades} came on the turn Rheem fired out for 800,000. Suharto mucked, and Rheem scooped a pot that pushed his stack up to 16.1 million.

Player Profile: Craig Marquis

Craig Marquis
Craig Marquis
Craig Marquis is, on paper, the least experienced player remaining. He's been playing for just a year and a half, and stopped short of calling himself a professional player.

The 23-year-old student is from Arlington, Texas and bought into the tournament for the full entry price of $10,000. Marquis is most proud of "grinding his way up the limits" and plays guitar and pool in his free time.

If you spot Craig at the table with the headphones on, there's a good chance he's listening to Third Eye Blind, or any other 90s alternative rock band. Should he win the Main Event, he plans on buying his sisters and mother a pool.
