Kostritsyn Down and Up and Down

Alexander Kostritsyn's stack can't decide which way it wants to head. It started the day on a downswing, moved back up, and is now moving down again. On a flop of {6-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}, Kostritsyn bet 125,000 from middle position. His opponent, Garrett Beckman, moved all in for 407,000 on the button. Kostritsyn made a quick call and tabled {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts} for top two pair. He couldn't have been pleased when Beckman showed {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} for top pair and the nut flush draw. The flush promptly came with the {2-Diamonds} turn. The river blanked out {10-Spades} to allow Beckman to double up at Kostritsyn's expense.

Andersen Rivers Akopyan

Gert Andersen
Gert Andersen
Sarkis Akopyan raised from middle position, Gert Andersen reraised from the small blind, Akopyan three-bet it, Andersen pushed all in, and Akopyan called.

Akopyan showed {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}, while Andersen had {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. The board came {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}... {Q-Spades}. That queen on the end stole the hand from Akopyan, and he falls down to just 40,000. Andersen now has 860,000.

Cunningham Takes Small Hit

Allen Cunningham
Allen Cunningham
Allen Cunningham has also been quiet today but just took a small hit to his stack in a pot with Tim Loecke.

Cunningham check-called a bet of 150,000 from Loecke on a board of {2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} before they saw a river of {J-Hearts}. Cunningham checked and Loecke fired 275,000. Cunningham thought for a moment before laying it down to slip back to 840,000.

A Bad Flop for Jeremiah Smith

We caught up with the action on this hand after the {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} flop, and that flop kicked off a lot of action. Jeremiah Smith and Cort Kibler-Melby pushed all their chips into the middle and Smith had been unlucky to flop top pair with {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} when Kibler-Melby hit trips with {K-Spades} {5-Spades}. When the {8-Spades} came on the turn and the {10-Hearts} on the river Kibler-Melby doubled up and Smith was left with just 50,000 in chips.

Cantu Lays One Down

With the board reading {7-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {5-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} on the turn, Felix Osterland checked, Brandon Cantu bet 50,000, Osterland raised to 100,000, Cantu three-bet to 300,000 and Osterland called. The river was the {10-Spades}. Osterland moved all in and after a long think, Cantu gave it up.

"Good fold," said Osterland as he raked in the pot. He's now up to 1,630,000 while Cantu is down to 1,200,000.

Kara Scott Surviving

Kara Scott
Kara Scott
Kara Scott has been playing pretty tight so far today, but was just involved in an interesting battle of the blinds with Chino Rheem. After some aggressive raising preflop, Rheem finally put Scott to a decision for all of her chips. With about 200,000 behind and at least that much in the pot, Scott went into the tank before laying her hand down.

The next hand Scott was on the button and reraised the opening bet from chip leader Cristian Dragomir, who made the call. They saw a flop of {6-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{2-Clubs} and Dragomir checked to Scott, who moved all in for a little over 100,000. Dragomir folded and Scott recovered some lost chips to be back to around 345,000.

A Whale of a Pot for Whalen

A couple of big stacks just collided when Bob Whalen and Chris Overgard got it all in preflop, Overgard having Whalen covered, though not by much.

Whalen had {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}, and Overgard {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}. The board came {2-Spades}{6-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Spades} and Whalen doubled way up to 1.5 million. Overgard fell all of the way back down to 102,000.

Overgard ended up all in soon afterwards with {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}, and was eliminated when he lost to Markus Feurle's {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}. Feurle is now at 820,000.

Cory Albertson Eliminated

Cory Albertson
Cory Albertson
Cory Albertson has been eliminated after moving his short stack all in over the top of an opening raise from Alex Outhred, who made a pot-committed call.

Albertson: {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Outhred: {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

The board ran out {K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Outhred comes from behind to spike a pair and send Albertson to the exit.
