Spectators Galore!

We just recently put up a post about the amount of spectators staying to watch the remaining 49 players in today's event. We'd like to address the fact that the number of spectators here has easily doubled and is currently four to five deep around the rail.

We're quite impressed by the sheer number of spectators and it's very impressive to see such a large crowd here within the Brasilia room.

Thought You Had Something Else

After some preflop action, John Conroy pushed all in for 150,000 on a flop of {K-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, and Peter Nguyen called.

Conroy showed {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} for a pair of kings, and Nguyen showed {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. "I put you on jacks," explained Nguyen.

Conroy's hand held up, and he's up to 410,000. Peter Nguyen has slipped to 200,000.

False Hope

Van Nguyen pushed her last 20,000 in with {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and was called by Greg Alexander, who had {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}, giving Nguyen a set and a big lead. But runner-runner eights gave Alexander the bigger boat, and Nguyen's day was done.

Alexander is up over 100,000.

Kane Doubles Through JC Tran

Gerry Kane moved all in preflop 73,500 after Peter Chen had made it 18,000 to go. JC Tran had called the 18,000 and ultimately called the all-in as well. Chen got out of the way and Tran showed {Q-Clubs} {9-Clubs} and was up against Gerry Kane's pocket tens. The tens flopped a set for Kane, who is now up to 155,000 after Tran failed to improve.

Jacks a-Plenty

Gabriel Alarie raised to 12,000, David Pham pushed all in with his 56,000, and Alarie called.

Alarie showed pocket eights, and Pham turned over J-J. Alarie didn't care much for the flop -- {6-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. The {J-Spades} on the turn he liked even less.

Pham is up to 118,000.

Gazes Likes What She Sees

Kristy Gazes

Down to just 25,000, Kristy Gazes pushed all in from the hijack seat, and Josh Pollock called her from the small blind. Pollack showed {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}, and Gazes {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

"Diamonds are a girl's best friend," said Gazes hopefully.

The flop came {4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. The turn was the {6-Spades}. "Oh, baby doll," said Gazes, seeing the open-ended straight draw.

The river was the {8-Spades}. "Oh, baby doll!" said Gazes. She survives, and now has 58,500.

Greg Mueller Eliminated, New Chip Leader Emerges

Greg Mueller had led out 17,000 to go preflop when Rasmus Nielsen made it 67,000 more. Greg went into the tank, then eventually raised to 250,000. Rasmus quickly called and showed A-K to have Greg, who held K-10, dominated. Rasmus flopped an ace and although Greg turned a king, he wasn't able to improve and was eliminated from the field.

The hand was large enough to put Rasmus over 750,000, making him our new chip leader.

What Might Have Been

Gerry Kane raised to 18,000 from under the gun, and Robert Vecchio called from the button. J.C. Tran then raised it up to 68,000 from the small blind. Kane got out of the way, and Vecchio pushed all in to 124,000. Tran called.

Tran showed {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}, while Vecchio tabled {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}. The flop brought Tran his needed seven -- {5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and the river the {6-Clubs}, and Vecchio hit the rail.

After the hand, Tran suggested that if Vecchio hadn't just smooth-called Kane's raise, he wouldn't have busted on the hand. In any event, Tran now has 340,000.

The Crowd Gathers

Before we left for dinner break, there was a small gathering here in the Brasilia room to watch the 70-odd players remaining. However, since returning from dinner, a massive crowd of onlookers have stumbled in here and are all huddled along the rail to get a glimpse of the event.

It's rather interesting to see so many spectators here, especially with the H.O.R.S.E final table going on just down the block.
