The Ultimate Bad Beat

During break, a lot of players could be seen huddled around the television monitors to watch the game. At one of the screens sat Scott Clements, Huckleberry Seed, Mel Judah, and Steve Zolotow among others. All was good until a technician came over and abruptly switched the channel to a tournament clock.

"Well that's just wrong!" announced one of the players.

Another player yelled out, "The ultimate bad beat!" before they headed back to their seats.

Luske Cut in Half

Marcel Luske just got scooped in a pot, with his up cards showing {J-?} {J-?} {Q-?} {Q-?}. The pot was built to over 3,000, before Luske lost at showdown to {7-?} {6-?} {5-?} {4-?} {3-?} {5-?} {6-?}. After taking that hit, the Dutchman is down to half his starting stack, 5,200.

Negreanu Called Down

Daniel Negreanu: (X) (X) {7-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} (X)
Opponent: (X) (X) {K-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} (X)

Negreanu completed and then bet on fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh street. His opponent called each time. After the last call, Negreanu said, "That's a good call, no pair."

His opponent turned up two pair with kings and sevens and Daniel mucked. He is now down to 5,000.

Giang and Clements Split

Scott Clements: (X) (X) {4-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {K-Hearts} (X)
Chau Giang: (X) (X) {3-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {9-Spades} {Q-Hearts} (X)
Seat 4: (X) (X) {9-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Spades} (X)

Clements completed on third, and both the other players called. he then led out on fourth with both players calling as well.

On fifth street, Clements got tricky and check-raised when Giang led out with a bet.

On sixth street, seat four bet out and both Clements and Giang called.

On seventh street, Giang did the betting with both Clements and seat four calling.

Clements showed {K-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {6-Spades} {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} for an eight-six low. Giang showed {Q-Hearts} {9-Spades} {5-Hearts} {5-Spades} {5-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {3-Clubs} for trip fives and the high half of the pot. Seat four mucked.

Some Hardware Arrives at the Table

Event # 24 Champion Max "Italian Pirate" Pescatori has just joined us in the field. He has taken a seat at Table 19 across from Andy Bloch, Steve Zolotow, and "Tex" Barch. Pescatori is lacking his red, white, and green bandana today, but he is sporting his recently-acquired gold bracelet.

Basketball... Again

Once again, the NBA finals are on the televisions surrounding the tables in the Amazon room. Many players are sitting down only for brief moments to check out their hands before they make their way over to watch the game. This seems to be a common occurrence when the games are on. Play usually slows down, with all the big name players having a lot of money riding on the game.
