Chopped Pot

David Benyamine and Phil Galfond limped, Johnny Chan folded the small blind, and John Juanda checked from the big blind.

The flop came all babies -- {3-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}. Juanda checked, Benyamine bet 65,000, and Galfond called. Juanda then reraised with the rest of his chips, a total of 344,000.

Benyamine went in the tank for a bit. The last two hands hadn't gone so well for him. He folded.

Now it was Galfond's turn to decide what to do. He made the call.

Juanda showed 5-6-x-x for the nut straight, while Galfond showed the nut flush draw and an inside straight draw.

The {6-Clubs} on the turn completed Galfond's straight draw -- now both he and Juanda had a seven-high straight. The river was the {Q-Diamonds}, and they chopped the huge pot.

Galfond Takes Another Bite Out of Benyamine

David Benyamine raised to 70,000 and Phil Galfond called. The flop was {J-Spades} {5-Clubs} {4-Clubs}. Benyamine checked and Galfond checked behind. The turn was the {10-Hearts}. Benyamine checked, Galfond bet 120,000 and Benyamine quickly called. The river was the {7-Hearts}. Benyamine checked and Galfond checked.

Galfond showed {A-?} {A-?} {Q-?} {9-?}, Benyamine mucked and Galfond picked up another pot, increasing his stack to 1,844,000.

After the hand, Benyamine was down to 663,000, a loss of 375,000 over the last two hands.

Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stack

David Benyamine raised to 65,000 from the hijack, and Phil Galfond called from the button. The blinds got out of the way.

The flop came {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}. Benyamine rechecked his cards, thought a while, then bet 120,000. Galfond riffled his chips, staring intently over at Benyamine's chips. He then quietly announced a pot-sized raise -- a total of 526,000.

Benyamine folded rather quickly, eliciting a chuckle from Negreanu.

Adam Hourani Doubles Through Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu limped in, Adam Hourani raised to 80,000, and Negreanu called. The flop was {Q-Spades} {8-Spades} {3-Hearts}. Negreanu checked, Hourani moved all in for 110,000 and Negreanu called.

Hourani: {A-?} {A-?} {5-?} {4-?}

Negreanu: {8-?} {7-?} {6-?} {5-?}

Hourani led with his pair of aces. The turn was the {10-Clubs} and Negreanu picked up a straight draw. The river was the {3-Clubs} and Hourani got a much-needed double up courtesy of Kid Poker.

After the hand, Hourani was up to 384,000 while Negreanu was left with only 119,000.

LOL Galfondaments

Phil Galfond raised to 60,000 and David Benyamine called from the small blind. The flop was {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {3-Spades}. Benyamine checked, Galfond bet 110,000, Benyamine folded and Galfond won the pot. He showed {7-?} {8-?} for two pair.

Pick One and Go Time?

With the blinds having moved up to 12,000/24,000, an opening preflop raise can now range from 48,000 to 84,000. That means the current short stacks -- Phil Hellmuth (161,000) and Adam Hourani (174,000) -- will need to continue to tread carefully.

A Teaser

Phil Hellmuth limped from middle position, and Daniel Negreanu limped as well from the button. Adam Hourani completed from the small blind, and Johnny Chan checked from the big blind.

It looked like an action flop -- {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{J-Spades} -- but all four checked. The turn was the {10-Hearts}, and all checked again. They also checked the river, the {Q-Hearts}.

Hellmuth showed A-K-x-x for an ace-high straight, enough to win the pot.
