Chris Moneymaker Bounces Back After His Aces Are Cracked

2003 WSOP Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker
2003 WSOP Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker
After a flop of 8-8-7, a player bets, Chris Moneymaker pushes, and his opponent calls all in for about 50,000. Moneymaker shows A-A, but his opponent shows 8-7 for the flopped full house, eights full of sevens. The last two cards are blanks, and Moneymaker's opponent doubles up.

Just a few moments later, they're in another hand together. After a flop of {K-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts}, Moneymaker bets 17,500, and his nemesis calls. The turn card pairs the board with the {K-Hearts}, Moneymaker bets 11,000, and his opponent calls. The river card is the {10-Hearts}, Moneymaker bets 12,700, and his opponent calls.

Moneymaker shows {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for trip kings with a jack kicker, and his opponent shows {K-Spades}{9-Clubs} for trip kings with a nine kicker. Moneymaker drags the pot, regaining the chips he lost and building his stack back up to 105,000.

Nice Laydown

Isaac Haxton raised to 3,300 under the gun and got one caller. The flop {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Haxton led out for 7,000. His opponent raised to 21K, and Haxton moved all-in for 56,000 total. He and his opponent were almost even in chips and the other player took a long, long, long time deciding what to do. Finally he mucked, and Haxton turned over pocket Kings. His opponent said he threw away pocket Queens.

Padraig Parkinson Eliminated

Padraig Parkinson moves all in from the cutoff for 10,000, the player on the button calls, the big blind moves all in over the top, and the button folds. Parkinson says, "I think I've got you on this one," and he shows 9-7 offsuit. The big blind shows {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}, and Parkinson has him, in the sense that he has two unsuited undercards.

The board comes {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, and Parkinson's flops a seven for some outs, but never improves beyond that.

Padraig Parkinson is eliminated from the Main Event.

Gus Hansen Likes Sick Puppies

The Great Dane
The Great Dane
Gus Hansen raised from the button. The small blind called and the big blind moved all in for 46,000. Hansen went into the tank for a few minutes. ESPN cameras swarmed around his table as the Great Dane counted out 46,000 in chips. He took a few deep breaths before he tossed his chips into the pot. The small blind folded.

"I have a small pair," said Hansen as he tabled his cards

Hansen: {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

"You're one sick puppy," said Hansen's opponent.

The flop was {K-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and Hansen still led. The turn was the {6-Hearts}. The river was the {2-Diamonds}. Hansens pair of deuces held up as his opponent headed to the rail.

Hansen increased his stack to 165,000 after that hand. In the last ten minutes, he has busted two players.

Jesus Can Win Without Cards

The hand after Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson eliminated a player, he is restacking his chips, and the dealer accidentally forgets to deal him cards. When the action gets around to Ferguson in middle position, he starts looking, but can't find any, even under the chips.

A player across the table says, "You can win without cards," and another adds, "It's the only way we can beat you." The dealer looks at Ferguson and jokes, "I thought you said you wanted to be dealt out the next hand."

Everyone mucks their cards, and the hand is redealt.
