The past few days, a giant Mr. Peanut character has been walking around the World Series, shaking hands and greeting people. Just like the costumed characters at Disneyland, Mr. Peanut has a handler with him at all times to help him get through tight spaces and keep people from kicking him in the butt.
Most of the people who have seen Mr. Peanut here have reacted positively, shaking his hand or exclaiming, "Hey, it's Mr. Peanut!" He may not have the Q-rating of Mickey Mouse, but there's really no reason to hate Mr. Peanut.
Now if only Planters could put up some money into the prizepool ... then the players would *love* Mr. Peanut.
Yesterday, Mr. Peanut walked up to one of the larger floormen ready to shake his hand. The floorman stepped back and said, "Get that hand away from me." After a short but dramatic pause, he added, "I only take hugs." Mr. Peanut gave him the hug he was looking for, drawing some laughter from those nearby.
