It seems like Jean-Robert Bellande has been in a lot of pots so far, but this is one he probably wishes he'd stayed out of. After the player on the button raised Bellande made a big re-raise. The button pushed in the rest of his chips and Bellande was committed to the call. His opponent had pocket sevens, while Bellande had 8-5 offsuit. "I'm not happy about that re-raise," Bellande said after the board didn't give him a glimmer of hope.
After chipping up most of the day Mike Spegal just lost a pot on the river. After a player raised in middle position Spegal re-raised to 25,000 to set the raiser all-in. The blinds got out of the way and the original bettor made the call with K-Q, while Spegal turned over 6-5. Spegal outflopped his opponent after the were spread, but after the turned his opponent caught the to win the pot and stay alive.
Jean-Robert Bellande and Gavin Smith are sitting back-to-back at adjacent tables and Smith just sweated a hand where Bellande eliminated another player. Bellande called a raise in the small blind and the flop came down . Bellande set the other player all-in and was called, and Bellande's pocket Queens held a big lead against his opponent's A-J, a lead that held up.
Bellande said that he slowly looked at his pocket cards so Smith, turning around, could gather some excitement from looking at his hand.
According to Phil Hellmuth it's... Phil Hellmuth. Phil stopped by Gavin's table to chat and attributed Smith's deep run to Phil keeping Gavin calm while they were playing at the same table.
Gavin responded to Phil's statement... calmly. And with a laugh.
When the player in the cutoff moved in for all his chips Mike Spegal raised the pot again to isolate. Spegal turned over A-K, his opponent had A-8, and after hitting a king on the turn the pot was his. However, it turned out he needed that king--an eight fell on the river to taunt the player Spegal just eliminated.
Jon Friedberg called a pot-sized raise from Gavin Smith and they saw a flop of , which they both checked. They both also checked the on the turn, and when the fell on the turn Friedberg bet 5,000 and Smith called. Friedberg turned over A-J, Smith had A-K, and Friedberg won a cautiously-contested pot.
