Makavets Scores a Huge Double-Up

Level 27 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Andrei Makavets raised to 85,000 from under the gun and Dennis Wilke three-bet to 250,000 in the cutoff. Action folded back to Makavets who made the call.

The flop came {3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{q-Spades}, Makavets check-called the 175,000 bet of Wilke.

The turn was the {k-Spades}, Makavets checked again. Wilke continued with a bet of 315,000 and Makavets quickly announced he was all-in. Wilke snap-called.

Makavets held {j-Spades}{10-Spades} for the flush, straight flush, and royal flush draw. Wilke was sitting with {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} and had already turned a Broadway. The {a-Diamonds} or {a-Hearts} on the river would give them a chopped pot.

The river completed the board with the {4-Spades} instead to give Makavets the flush as he shouted out "YES!" loudly to stay alive.

Dennis Wilke
Dennis Wilke

Christopher Putz and Dennis Wilke were just involved in a monster pot and Wilke was kind enough to recount what had happened:

Putz opened to 60,000 from the cutoff and Wilke defended his big blind.

The flop came {10-}{3-}{a-} with two clubs and one spade. Wilke check-raised the 50,000 bet of Putz to 140,000 which was called.

The turn was the {9-Spades}, Wilke now led out for 325,000 and Putz called.

The river completed the board with the {6-Hearts}, Wilke shoved for 1,075,000 and Putz tank-called for a bit less with {a-}{j-} for top pair with the jack-kicker. Wilke held {a-}{10-} for the flopped top two pair to eliminate Putz and jump into the chip lead.
