Jerry Gumila Victorious in Event #4: $600 NLH
The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Hammond to live report both the $1,700 Main Event and $2,200 High Roller; however, those are just two of more than a dozen gold ring events that will have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.
Event #4: $600 No-Limit Hold’em saw 154 runners create a $79,310 prize pool that was distributed to the top 24 players. Among those to get a piece of it but fall short of making the final table were Eric Jaroch (11th - $1,375), Joe Leibman (16th - $1,020), John “Farmboy” Kurfman (18th - $1,020), Blake Whittington (20th - $918), and Jordan Jayne (24th - $850).
Coming out on top was 50-year-old Jerry Gumila of Steamwood, Illinois, who took home $20,773 and his first gold ring after a four-year hiatus away from the game.
“It feels good, I didn’t expect it to happen but I gave it a shot and I’m really happy I won a ring, this things are hard to get,” Gumila said after his win. “I haven’t really had time to play as much as I would like due to work but I love poker and I love the game.”
He added: “I’m probably not going to play much more of the Circuit due to my work schedule but I feel good and I feel like I can compete, so I’ll be here for the Main Event.”
