Dan O'Brien Wins First WSOP Circuit Gold Ring a Mile from Home
While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the $1,700 Main Event, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe.
In Event #5: $400 NLH 6-Handed, 205 runners created a $67,650 prize pool that was paid out to the top 31 places. Among those to get a piece of it were Vincent Moscati (10th - $1,451), Michael Faulkner (12th - $1,157), Vanessa Kade (14th - $952), Shirin Oskooi (24th - $709), David Larson (26th - $643), and Jeff Day (31st - $302).
In the end, it was well-known poker pro Dan O’Brien, who now calls Lake Tahoe home, besting Dustin Fox in heads-up play to win the tournament for $16,543 and his first gold ring. The victory came just 24 hours after he finished runner-up to Adam Owen in Event #3.
“It’s sick. I actually forgot that I was getting a ring. It’s honestly really great to play with Dustin heads up,” O’Brien said after the win. “I haven’t been playing as much poker, but I’m playing local stuff. I’m not traveling. This is a mile away, and it’s cool. Honestly, I’m really excited about this. It’s a really fantastic feeling.”
