Cody Coffman Wins Monster Stack Opener for $47K

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Cody Coffman

While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the Main Event and High Roller, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Choctaw Durant

In Event #1: $400 Monster Stack, 765 entrants competed over two starting flights, which resulted in a $252,450 prize pool. Among those to finish in the top 111 and make the money was Eddie Stokes (19th - $1,878), Jacob Seale (33rd - $1,313), and Jack Bendetti (65th - $642), just to name a few.

In the end, 24-year-old Cody Coffman of Tulsa, Oklahoma bested Robert Miller in heads-up play to win the title for $47,458 and his first gold ring. He did so by coming into Day 2 as the overall chip leader.

“Yeah, I mean, I didn’t like being top just because it puts pressure on you… but obviously I prefer it. Because of my cash game background, I like playing deeper. It’s better for me anyway,” said Coffman, a full-time student at Northeastern State studying Cyber Security.

He added: “It feels great. I mean, I usually play cash. Cash games are more steady. You don’t come in and buy in for four hundred and win 47k, so it’s just insane. It’s a great feeling … I mean, I’ve played instead of having a job through college and I love it, it’s fun, but it’s just not something I’d want to do as a job. It’s just a hobby… I just want to work full time and play. I’ll still play a ton.”

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

On a flop of {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts} Brian Altman fired out a bet of 1,900 into the pot of roughly 2,900 and his opponent made the call.

The turn was the {6-Spades} and Altman had no intentions of slowing down as he fired in a bet of 4,500. His opponent took about 20-seconds before deciding to let his hand go and Altman was awarded the pot.

Moore Coolers Opponent with Pocket Aces

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Megan Moore
Megan Moore

The action folded around to the button who raised to 500, Ryan Jones called in the small blind before Megan Moore three-bet to 1,300 and the button then four-bet to 4,500. Jones quickly mucked saying, "I guess you two just want me out of the pot!" and Moore made the call.

The flop fell {j-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, Moore checked to the button who continued for 6,000 and Moore moved all-in, which was quickly called and the button was at risk for his tournament life.

Button: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Megan Moore: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Moore was in the lead with her pocket aces against the opponent's pocket kings, and the board was no help to her opponent as it completed with the {3-Clubs} on the turn and the {9-Hearts} on the river.

Jones Sets Up Alee for Early Elimination

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

Brian Altman opened under the gun for 500 and Stacey Jones three-bet to 1,200 on the button. Action was on AJ Alee who defended his big blind and Altman called to see a {2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}.

Alee lead out for 4,000 getting a quick fold from Altman while Jones raised to 9,000. Action was back on Alee who three-bet jammed and was quickly called by Jones.

AJ Alee: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Stacey Jones: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

Jones was ahead with his flopped set of sixes but Alee held the flush draw.

Unfortunately for Alle, the {3-Clubs} turn nor the {j-Spades} river were the cards he was looking for and he was eliminated from the tournament.

Jones Fires Three Streets

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

Action on the table folded around to the cutoff player who raised to 500 and Stacey Jones three-bet to 1,200 from the small blind. The big blind player folded and the initial raiser called to see a {10-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}.

Jones continued for 1,200 and was quickly called by his opponent to see the {8-Clubs} fall on the turn.

The {8-Diamonds} river paired the board and Jones fired one last bullet for 4,500 which was enough to scoop the pot.
