Turned Straight for Daly Sends Leutwyler Out

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

On a board of {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Spades}{j-Clubs} there was roughly 30,000 in the middle and Jason Daly checked to Ulrich Leutwyler who bet out 24,000. Daly wasted no time announcing all-in and Leutwyler called off his stack of approximately 45,000.

Ulrich Leutwyler: {j-Spades}{9-Spades}
Jason Daly: {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Leutwyler turned jacks and nines with a straight draw but was in rough shape against Daly's straight. The river was the {q-Hearts} changing nothing and Leutwyler was eliminated from the tournament.

Jeff Hood Wins First Ring in Event #6: $400 NLH Turbo

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Jeff Hood

While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the Main Event and High Roller, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Choctaw Durant.

In Event #6: $400 NLH Turbo, 255 runners created a $84,1500 prize pool that was paid out to the top 40 players. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Michael Clements (11th - $1,347), Daniel Lowery (13th - $1,118), Oscar Penn (17th - $948), James Baune (33rd - $556), and Robert Keeling (37th - $551).

In the end, it was 53-year old Austin, Texas native Jeff Hood who earned $19,338 along with his first gold ring in the process.

“That was my first tournament [series] I went to,” Hood mentioned, referring to the most recent Rio Circuit in Las Vegas. “That one, I should have been more aggressive. Seventh was great, but this feels really good to get this ring.”

Final-table finishes can leave players yearning for what could have been. This time around it was nothing but satisfaction for Hood who is relatively new to the world of poker.

“I started playing about three years ago,” Hood disclosed. “We have a kind of game in our office a guy invited me to. He mentored me. Steve Rosser is his name. Read a lot of books. Took Negreanu’s Master Class. Read a lot of stuff and got good experience.”

Although young in practice, Hood has been diligent with his studies since entering the poker scene. Only three years in and the semi-retired Patent Lawyer has already reached the WSOP gold ring club.

Altman's Kicker is Good to Eliminate Opponent

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

The action folded around to Brian Altman in the hijack who raised to 6,000, the cutoff and button folded before the small blind moved all-in. The big blind folded quickly and Altman asked for a count. After finding out it was 27,000 he made the call.

Small blind: {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Brian Altman: {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Altman had his opponent dominated and the flop came {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades} giving both players a pair of aces, the board completed with the {j-Spades} on the turn and the {5-Spades} on the river. Altman's seven-kicker was good to eliminate his opponent.

Walsworth Makes Another Good River Call

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Peter Walsworth opened for 6,500 from the cutoff and was called by Jason Daly on the button, along with Mark Toulouse from the big blind.

The {j-Spades}{4-Spades}{j-Hearts} flop was checked to the {10-Hearts} where Walsworth fired out 10,500 after Toulouse checked his option. Daly raised to 31,500 and got a quick fold from Toulouse while Walsworth called.

The {5-Diamonds} river completed the board and Walsworth checked to Daly who fired out 53,500.

Walsworth glared at Daly then tossed out his chips and called.

Daly turned over {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a missed flush and Walsworth took down the pot with his made hand of {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

James Duke Achieves Gold in Event #7: $400 NLH Double Stack

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the Main Event and High Roller, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Choctaw Durant.

In Event #7: $400 NLH Double Stack, 353 runners created a $116,490 prize pool that was paid out to the top 54 players. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Michael Lech (10th - $1,753), Justin Kruger (14th- $1,438), Lauren Bunch (26th - $780), Will Berry (29th - $701), and Bart Bogard (35th - $602).

In the end, it was Texas native James Duke securing a $25,400 victory along with his first ring.

“It’s just so exciting. I’ve been trying for 14 years to win a damn ring,” Duke said with a laugh following his triumph. “It means a lot to me to win here at Choctaw because the players are so tough here. They’re great players and they’re friendly and the dealers are all great; The floor crew’s great. So, I’m pretty excited about it.”

The win brings Duke's WSOP cashes to a total of 40 with $750,000 in earnings. A vast majority of that sum ($614,368) was earned by Duke in 2014 when he took third place in the Millionaire Maker, a tournament that encompassed nearly 8,000 players.

Vo Goes for Three Streets

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Viet Vo raised in early position to 6,500, Mark Toulouse called next to act and Peter Walsworth called in the big blind.

On the flop of {q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} Walsworth checked to Vo who continued for 9,000 and Toulouse quickly got out of the way before Walsworth made the call.

The turn was the {q-Clubs}, Walsworth checked and Vo fired in a bet of 14,000 which Walsworth eventually called.

The {10-Diamonds} fell on the river and Walsworth checked once again and Vo fired in the third bullet of 40,000. Walsworth thought it over for about 20-seconds before throwing his cards into the muck.
