The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana in the Louisville area to live report the $1,700 Main Event; however, that is just one of more than a dozen gold ring events that have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #9: $400 No-Limit Hold’em attracted 123 entries and offered up a $40,590 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 19 players including Merton Toler (10th - $779), Nickolas Syrigos (14th - $673), Scott Weiss (16th - $601), and Kathalyn Holz (19th - $553).

Poker grinder Tim Garles from Des Moines, Iowa began day 2 as the chip leader and stayed there on his way to victory.

“I have been working really hard, my coach is Jeff Fielder,” Garles said after his win. “I definitely have to thank him.”

He added: “I am just going to keep playing tournaments.”
