The Brecher Situation
Before hand-for-hand play Steve Brecher and tournament officials came to a compromise concerning him not showing his hole cards. After not heeding a few requests from staff Brecher was assessed a one hand penalty. He accepted the penalty and then returned to his seat.
On the next hand he played Brecher again didn't show his hole cards. One of the floor staff informed him, after consulting other staff, as well as, the tournament director, that the penalties would increase incrementally - the next would be one orbit, then two orbits and eventually a possible DQ from the tournament.
Brecher did not want to make a big show but was not showing based on principle. They came to a compromise where Brecher would not put his cards over the sensor but if the dealer put the cards there he would let them sit there for a moment. All parties seem to be happy with the compromise.
