James Russell Eliminated in 8th Place ($22,298)

James Russell
James Russell

James Russell found himself all in preflop for around 700,000 holding {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and racing against the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} of Chris Conrad. Any excitement quickly dissipated when the {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop delivered Conrad a set and a huge lead. The {Q-Clubs} turn left Russell drawing dead, and he made his way to the payout desk in eighth place after the {J-Hearts} was put out on the river.

Conrad Doubles Through Killday

Chris Conrad is back in front.
Chris Conrad is back in front.

Bradley Lipsey started the action by raising to 85,000 from the cutoff, Chris Conrad bumped it up to 175,000 and Tim Killday called from the big blind. Lipsey dumped his cards like they had a virus and Killday announced a dark check.

The flop came {J-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} and Conrad checked behind. The turn brought the {Q-Clubs}, Killday checked and Conrad bet 200,000. Killday raised to 1.2 million after some thought and Conrad shoved on him. Killday called and the cards were tabled.

Conrad: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}
Killday: {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts}

Killday was drawing live with his two pair but bricked when the river came {A-Hearts}. With that hand Conrad stole the chiplead from Killday.

Russell Sliding

After Tim Killday limped from the under-the-gun position, James Russell raised to 200,000 from the hijack. The rest of the field got out of the way, Killday called, and the flop came down {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Killday turned right around and led out for 400,000, which was enough to take down the pot.

Reminiscent of What's Happening

Level 28 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

In the last hand, Jeff Fitzgerald opened for 80,000 from the hijack and Tripp Kirk three-bet to 225,000 from the small blind. Fitzgerald thought for a moment before releasing his hand.

It wasn't anything special, but serves as a great example of how the action has been the last half hour or so.

Russell Opens Light, Pays the Price

From under the gun James Russell opened to 125,000 and action folded around to Charles Moore in the big blind. Moore moved in his last 470,000 into the pot and Russell called with very little thought.

Moore: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}
Russell: {K-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}

The flop was scary for Moore when it fell {3-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {Q-Spades}, giving Russell a gutshot straight draw. The turn was a brick when it fell {5-Spades} and Russell whiffed again when the river came {8-Diamonds}. Moore finally has chips to play with, he's been at the bottom of the leaderboard since last night.

Lipsey vs. Fitzgerald

Brad Lipsey opened for 85,000 and found one caller in the form of Jeff Fitzgerald in the small blind. When the flop fell {3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, Fitzgerald proceeded to check-call a bet of 145,000 before both players checked the {8-Hearts} turn.

The {2-Diamonds} river saw Fitzgerald check for a third time, and Lipsey took the opportunity to bet 295,000. Fitzgerald thought for a few moments before making the call, and was pleased to hear his opponent say, "Queen high." Fitzgerald then rolled over {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} to take down the pot.
