Ron Segni Eliminated in 3rd Place ($50,210)

Ron Segni - 3rd place
Ron Segni - 3rd place

From the button, Bryan Schultz opened to 100,000, and Ron Segni called from the small blind. It'd end up being the final hand of his day.

The flop brought {7-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts} and a pair of checks, and the {Q-Spades} hit fourth street. When it did, Segni shoved in for just less than 400,000 total, and Schultz made the quick call with a chance at the knockout.

Showdown
Schultz: {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}
Segni: {K-Hearts} {2-Hearts}

Segni was on the flush draw, and he needed to find a heart that didn't pair the board in order to stick around. He only had one card to come, though, and the river {K-Spades} was too little, too late.

Unable to catch up, the start-of-day chip leader has been sent to the exit in third place. He'll earn himself a consolation prize of more than $50,000, a fine reward for a strong showing here this week.

Schultz Finds a Big One

From the button, Ron Segni raised to 90,000, and Daniel Lowery flatted from the small blind. In the big, though, Bryan Schultz wanted to play for more, and he squeezed in a reraise to 275,000 total. That folded Segni withouth incident, but Lowery came along with another call to proceed heads-up.

The two men checked through the {Q-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {J-Spades} flop and the {K-Clubs} turn, and the {6-Diamonds} filled out the board on the river. Lowery took his cue to bet 350,000, and Schultz called rather quickly, turning up {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds}. Lowery couldn't beat it, and he mucked to send a good chunk of chips over to his opponent.

Hank Czarnecki Eliminated in 4th Place ($37,087)

Hank Czarnecki 4th Place.
Hank Czarnecki 4th Place.

Hank Czarnecki opened for a raise and action passed to Daniel Lowery in the big blind. Lowery shoved and Czarnecki called. The hands were turned up and they were off to the races.

Czarnecki: {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}
Lowery: {2-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}

The flop came {10-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} which gave Czarnecki a flush draw and two overs for the win. But the board finished {4-Hearts} {J-Hearts} and Czarnecki's day was done.

Lowery Climbs Further

From the button, Ron Segni raised to 75,000, and Daniel Lowery flatted in the small blind to go heads up with him.

The flop brought {3-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {2-Spades}, and Lowery led out into the pot with 100,000. Segni didn't waste any time matching the bet, and the two men checked through the {3-Clubs} turn. The {4-Spades} appeared on the river, and Lowery fired back out with another 150,000. There was a bit of a pause this time, but the call eventually came.

Lowery announced his king and tabled {K-Spades} {J-Hearts}, and Segni's cards hit the muck face-down. He's now down around the half-million chip mark.

Jim Atwood Eliminated in 5th Place ($27,843)

Jim Atwood - 5th Place
Jim Atwood - 5th Place

Bryan Schultz opened from under the gun for 75,000 and Jim Atwood called from the big blind. The flop came out {J-Hearts} {K-Spades} {9-Hearts} and Atwood wasted no time shoving. Schultz insta-called and turned up {K-Clubs} {J-Spades} for top two pair.

Atwood needed to hit a heart holding {8-Hearts} {3-Hearts} to stay alive but got air when the board completed {Q-Spades} {8-Spades}. Atwood hit the rail as the remaining four players adjusted chairs to get more comfortable.

Schultz Punishes Czarnecki

There have been a few battles between Hank Czarnecki and Bryan Schultz that have fizzled out before any serious fireworks erupted, and we just watched the two of them play another pot.

It started with Czarnecki raising his button, and Schultz defended from the big blind to see a flop. The latter check-called another 75,000 on the {10-Spades} {7-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} flop, and he checked again behind the {J-Spades} turn. When Czarnecki bet 110,000, though, Schultz check-raised to 300,000 straight. That folded Czarnecki without much trouble, and that hit knocks Czarnecki back down under the million-chip mark.
