That's a Tough Sell

Chris Tryba
Chris Tryba

Chris Tryba is up early after risking nearly all his chips on a bluff.

When we walked up to the table, there was a partial board of {9-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {10-Clubs} in the middle of the table, and Tryba had checked. John Rhodes was his lone opponent, and Rhodes slid out a bet of 2,400 into a pot of 3,600. Tryba was having none of it, though, sneaking in a check-raise to 7,400 total. Rhodes didn't waste much time calling.

That led them to the board-pairing {6-Diamonds} river, and Tryba motioned for the dealer to spread the pot. Satisfied by what he saw, he fired out a final bet of 12,000, about 2/3rds of his remaining stack. Rhodes spent several long minutes agonizing in the tank before checking his cards one last time and spinning them into the muck.

"Phew, that was a tough sell!" Tryba said as he wiped the imaginary sweat from his brow. He flipped up his airball {2-Spades} {3-Spades}, good enough to take the big pot and move him up to about 36,000 in the process.
