Kurt Jewell raised to 15,500 from middle position and received calls from Robert Thornhill in the small blind and Hamed Wardak in the big. Thornhill was in good shape with the overpair and higher flush draw. The dealer slowly burned and turned the , which changed nothing. That card was followed by the on the river, which sent Thornhill into a celebration having his a king-high flush.
"Straight flush," Jewell said in a matter-of-fact tone. Thornhill took a second look at the board and his face dropped. It was true Jewell had hit his gin card to take down the pot and increase his stack to 330,000. Thornhill was left with nothing to do but make the long walk out of the tournament area just shy of the money.
