WPT Malta Day 2: Jackson Genovesi Still Leads
Today we played six 90-minute levels and during that time Jackson Genovesi managed to turn his tournament leading 147,500 stack into another tournament leading stack but this one contains an impressive 760,700.
Genovesi now has over 230,000 more chips than anyone else in the tournament and has to be the favorite to go all the way and win the WPT Malta Main Event. Genovesi is playing well but also running well too and that ladies and gentlemen is a dangerous combination.
He had already run his stack up to 420,000 when he managed to extract 20,000 chips from Jonathan Duhamel and then towards the end of the night he was responsible for eliminating Duhamel when he called the former World Series of Poker Main Event champion's six-bet with jacks and beat Duhamel's tens.
Other players to make it through to the penultimate day's play with big stacks include the very dangerous Yoran Kerignard (522,000), Francesco Favia (429,500) and Ilan Boujenah (297,500), the latter having a roller coaster of a day that he helped himself through by playing several tables of heads-up cash games online!
Midway through the day we lost 12-time WSOP champion Phil Hellmuth but we have another major star still in the field in the shape of Tony G. Everyone's favorite Lithuanian ended the day with 117,000.
Play resumes at 13:00 CET on Wednesday and will continue until the final table of six has been reached. The money bubble will burst when the 22nd place finisher is decided so tune in tomorrow to discover who the unfortunate bubble boy or girl is and which six make the final table.
Until then it is goodnight from Malta.
