Peeks Survives, Ripnick Not So Lucky
Eric Yanovsky raised to 500,000 in the cutoff and Rainer Kempe called on the button. Roeland Peeks then reraised to 1,900,000 in the big blind and Yanovsky folded, but Kempe moved all in. Peeks took a moment before calling for an additional 200,000.
Roeland Peeks: K♣K♠
Rainer Kempe: A♦4♦
"Queen-jack of spades. I'm the greatest player of all time," Yanovsky said when Peeks turned over his pair of kings. The board ran out 3♠5♠4♥Q♦7♦ and Peeks doubled up.
At the same time at another table, John Ripnick also put in 1,900,000 from the button and Pablo Melogno shoved in early position. Ripnick took a minute before calling off the rest of his remaining few chips.
John Ripnick: Q♠10♠
Pablo Melogno: 4♦4♣
Melogno hit a set on the A♠3♦2♥4♥ board, while the Q♣ arrived on the river too late to save Ripnick from being sent to the payout desk.
