Thorel Sends Mercier and Collopy Into the Light
Jason Mercier was one of the short stacks at his table and ripped all in for his last 159,000 from the cutoff. Jim Collopy shoved all in for 412,000 on the button, and Jean-Noel Thorel asked for a count of both stacks. Thorel then moved all in for 605,000, and Justin Bonomo quickly got out of the way in the big blind.
Jason Mercier: 5♥5♣
Jim Collopy: A♣K♠
Jean-Noel Thorel: A♠J♣
Mercier was the favorite as the only player with a pair but had plenty of cards to fade. The Q♦4♦2♥ flop was so far so good, and the 7♠ on the turn left it that way. However, the J♠ on the river gave Thorel the only winning option and eliminated both of his opponents.
"Yes!" he exclaimed, banging the table with both of his fists. He looked to Bonomo and shrugged as they laughed.
