Andre Pelletier Tops Mixed Re-Entry Field For $2,950

World Cup of Cards Event #11 champion, Andre Pelletier ($2,950)
World Cup of Cards Event #11 champion, Andre Pelletier ($2,950)

Andre Pelletier is the latest champion at the World Cup of Cards. Early Wednesday morning inside Playground Poker Club, Pelletier finished off his last competitor to capture the Event #11: Mixed (NLHE, PLO) Re-entry champion's trophy and $2,950 after a heads-up deal with Glen Meehan.

The 11th event of the World Cup of Cards drew a total of 130 entries after 26 re-entries. A prize pool of $12,610 was built and the final 13 positions made the money. Play slowed down to a crawl when 15 players remained so they all agreed to put up $20 each and pay the first two bust outs $150, eliminating the bubble.

That seemed to speed things up as John Palmer (15th - $150) and Liam Walsh (14th - $150) busted soon after. The final table of nine was set when Meehan shoved blind versus blind into Ian Mathers. Mathers called with {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and was ahead of Meehan's {10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. Unfortunately, they were both pretty even stacked and Meehan caught a king on the board and had Mathers slightly out-chipped.

Each level the game type would change back and forth creating a hectic dynamic at the final table. Jeremy Chandler was the first to depart getting his short stack in against Alexandre Durand. Durand was ahead preflop and held through the river to bust Chandler in ninth.

In a NLHE hand, Jerry Jaber had Bart Sieminski all-in and at risk preflop. Jaber was ahead with{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, racing against Sieminski's {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. Sieminski needed some help from the board but found nothing as it rolled out {5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{j-Clubs}{4-Spades}. Sieminski hit the rail in eighth.

Shawn Dubeau was crippled in a hand against Joseph Kennedy and departed in seventh. Felix-Antoine Legault took his leave in sixth when he moved all-in preflop with {a-Diamonds}{5-Spades} but ran into Jaber's {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Jaber was the next to go, busting to Meehan. Jaber shoved preflop with {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and Meehan called with {10-Spades}{a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. The board ran out {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Spades} and Meehan took down the pot, eliminating Jaber.

Busting in fourth was Joseph Kennedy. He moved all-in preflop with {k-Spades}{9-Spades} and was called by the {a-Spades}{4-Spades} of Durand. Kennedy was in trouble and unfortunately for him he rivered the second nuts on a {j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades} board. Durand though, made the nut flush on the river. "At least I can say I went out with the second nuts" declared Kennedy as he walked away from the table.

The hand before Durand was eliminated in third, he was crippled by Meehan. Durand moved all-in with {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and found himself racing against Meehan's {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. Durand had to improve to eliminate Meehan but the {j-Spades}{7-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} board had nothing for him and Meehan took the pot. Durand slid 330,000 over Meehan's way, leaving him with 65,000. Durand was all-in the next hand and was busted by Andre Pelletier.

Once heads up, Pelletier and Meehan made a deal. Meehan's slice was $2,500, Pelletier's was $2,700, and they would ply for $250 and the trophy. The final hand of the event was during a PLO level. Pelletier and Meehan raised pot preflop until Meehan was all-in and Pelletier called. Pelletier tabled {a-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Meehan turned over {q-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Meehan was ahead, but the board ran out {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}{a-Diamonds}, pairing Pelletier's ace on the river and giving him the victory.
