Day 1a of the Canadian Poker Championships Closes with Guillaume Nolet Leading

The headline event of the 2017 World Cup of Cards at Playground Poker Club kicked off on Friday with Day 1a of the $2,000,000 guaranteed partypoker LIVE Canadian Poker Championships.

Friday's field consisted of 23 online Phase 1 entries, 24 live Phase 1 entries, 62 Day 1a buy-ins and 19 re-entries to close with a total of 140 entries.

Leading the 69 Day 1a survivors at the end of nine levels was Guillaume Nolet. Nolet bagged a massive 6,725,000 stack to close out the evening with the chip lead.

Also topping the leaderboard was Samuel Phillips who finished the day second in chips with 5,450,000. Tao Bo Liang (5,204,000), Jody Miall (4,650,000), and partypoker Team Pro Kristen Bicknell (4,491,000) round out the top five.

Notables on to Day 2 include Ryan Riess (2,400,000), Carter Swidler (2,017,000), Jonathan Bussieres (1,700,000), Pablo Mariz (1,622,000), Marc-Andre Ladouceur (1,538,000), and Francois Billard (1,292,000).

Top ranked Canadian pro Ari Engel was the first player to bust on Day 1a. partypoker Team Pro Natalia Breviglieri, Duff Charette, Chance Kornuth, Jason James, Ryan Yu, Alex Foxen, and Paul Scott were just some of the other notables to join Engel on the rail.

Day 1b is set to get underway at noon local time on Saturday. Another nine levels are on the schedule with late-registration and single re-entry open all day long.
