Cates Finds a Cooler, Loses Minimal Amount Against Phua

Level 22 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Dan Cates
Dan Cates

Daniel Cates looked down at {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} and raised it up to 250,000 from the hijack. Paul Phua called in the cutoff with {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and an unbelievable flop of {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} hit the felt, smashing both players with the deck.

Cates led out for 250,000 with his three aces and Phua just called, slow-playing his full house. A {6-Clubs} landed on the turn and Cates fired in 450,000. Again Phua just called and the {9-Diamonds} completed the board.

Cates bet 650,000 with his trips and Phua moved all in for 3,075,000, covering the remaining 1,200,000 that Cates had behind. Cates hit the tank for several minutes, but in the end, he threw his three aces into the muck, making a tremendous fold late in the day against Phua's full house.
