Double for Defending Champion
Defending champion Koray Aldermir opened the action with a mid-position raise to 17,000 and Steffen Sontheimer re-raised to 50,000 in total. Action folded around to Sam Trickett in the small blind who had both players covered and looked sorely tempted but eventually elected to let it go after a few seconds in the tank.
With the action back on Aldermir he quickly moved his last 170,000 chips into the middle and Sontheimer called immediately.
Korey Aldemir:
Steffen Sontheimer:
“Arghh!” exclaimed Trickett when he saw both players had ace-king, “I folded pocket sevens.”
Needless to say the British pro was distinctly unimpressed when the flop came down .
“Man, I wish I’d just blown up there,” Trickett said with a sigh.
With both Aldemir and Sontheimer holding the same hand a chop was the most likely outcome, but the turn saw Aldemir pick up a diamond flush draw which duly came in when the hit the river to give him the double and he climbed to 380,000 while Sontheimer took a hit and dropped down to 305,000.
