Double Ups Galore

Level 24 : 40,000/80,000, 5,000 ante

The chips have been flying fast and furious. There have been four double ups in the last 10 minutes in the following order:

  • Julio Orhuela doubled up with {8-Clubs}{8-Spades} against Michael Baize's {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} when he flopped a set of eights and they held.
  • Nicholas Mann doubled up with {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} against Buzz Papalia's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} when he managed to fade a diamond flush draw on a run out of {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}.
  • Papalia doubled up against Danny Lobato when his {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} would hit a straight on the river to best the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} that Lobato held.
  • Baize doubled up against Mann when his {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} outran Mann's {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} on a {J-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{K-Spades}{9-Diamonds} run out.

Ronald Widman Eliminated in 9th Place ($4,232)

Level 24 : 40,000/80,000, 5,000 ante
Ronald Widman
Ronald Widman

Ronald Widman moved all in for 460,000 and was called by Stan Trim who had the same amount of chips as Widman. Trim was ahead with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} as Widman held {K-Spades}{6-Hearts}. He would flop a set of queens on the {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop. The turn and river of {7-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} did nothing to change that and Widman was eliminated in ninth place.

Matt Schwartz Eliminated in 10th Place ($3,426)

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Matt Schwartz - 10th place
Matt Schwartz - 10th place

Matt Schwartz started the day as the shortest stack with just 10,500 in chips. Over the course of the day he would grind his way through the field, moving up the pay ladder repeatedly. Looking down at {Q-}{Q-} it was easy for him to put his last 100,000 in the middle against Michael Baize who held {K-Hearts}{10-Spades}. Schwartz looked as if he were going to survive yet again as the board ran out {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts} but the river was the {K-Clubs} to give Baize a bigger pair and eliminating Schwartz in tenth place.

The good natured Schwartz congratulated the rest of the table, the same smile on his face that had been there for the last seven hours.

Chris Swanson Eliminated in 11th Place ($3,426)

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Chris Swanson
Chris Swanson

A short-stacked Chris Swanson moved all in first to act for 225,000 total with {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and was called by Buzz Papalia out of the big blind with {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. The flop of {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} gave Swanson an inside straight draw but the turn and river would brick out {2-Spades}{4-Diamonds} to eliminate Swanson in 11th place.

Arri Stone Eliminated in 12th Place ($3,426)

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Arri Stone
Arri Stone

After calling a pre-flop raise from Stan Trim, Arri Stone would move all in on the {10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop with {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and Trim would make the call with {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. Stone had outs to a flush or a king to double up but he would miss both of those on the {J-Hearts} turn and {7-Hearts} river to be eliminated in 12th place. He takes home $3,426 for that finish.

Ian Zeaman Eliminated in 13th Place ($2,812)

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Ian Zeaman
Ian Zeaman

A short-stacked Ian Zeaman was all in and at risk with {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} against Nick Mann and his {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Things were looking bright for Zeaman — at least until the dealer put out the flop of {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Hearts} to give Mann trip tens. The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and the river was the {3-Clubs} and all Zeaman could do was say to his friend "at least I was ahead" as he was eliminated in 13th place.
